OK, as many of you know I just recently reviewed the Ety ER-6i's and the UE Super.fi 3's. I don't really have upgrade-itus, but I think I just like to have different headphones just to feel...I don't even know. But, I really love the ER-6i's, and anything better than those would amaze me. So my question is; should I now get a pair of ER-4P's and just upgrade slower, or get a pair of...say SE530's or something up there in their range? Of course many of you might know, but if not, I like bass quality over bass quantity, which is why I prefer the Ety's over the UE's. So I'm asking, I want a more "fun" sounding headphone. I'd prefer at least the clarity of the Ety's, but maybe a little more bass...or whatever you guys think....thanks.

I think the SE530's would be a good choice for you. They are definitely 'fun' sounding, and should yield a marked difference in sound signature compared to your Ety's and UE's.

I have both the ER6i's and the Future Sonics Atrio M5s. They couldn't be more different from each other, and I really like them both.

Actually, they both have clarity and isolate well (the Etys take first prize, there) -- it's just that the M5's are physically larger (edge to the Etys, again) and have a deep natural fullness to the sound that's more "fun" and "listenable" than the Etys. The current eBay price for the M5s makes them that much more attractrive as a supplement to a growing Head-Fi collection of earphones/headphones.

imo, the ety er4p/s is a good upgrade from the er6i. Especially if you use an amp as well.

The e500 is almost the opposite imo. its extremely dark and has a huge (imo) treble roll off.

Gee you certainly do seem to be changing IEM's pretty quickly! I always thought you were a student?? How do you manage to fund these purchases?

Anyway, if you have the cash, I'd say go straight to the top end with SE530 or something in that league. It will simply save you the financial losses of upgrading slowly.

er4p is not "fun sounding"; even er4s's not. if you're ok with er6i's characteristics, you may try altec im716's (in order to experience a decent upgrade and to have somewhat a funnier sound) i didn't hear m5's but from what i read, it would be a good choice for your expectations, as well.

well I have a job now and my dad pays for my car insurance as long as I stay in school and keeps my grades up, so I'm left to pay gas and whatever (girlfriend), and then the rest is mine, so that leaves me with about an extra 75 a month?...anyways, I want ot know more about the SE530's/E500's.

well the se530 are very smooth in the highs but really stand out in the mids and bass, very comfy aswell, great design, honestly 10/10 earphones but be warned very different when coming from ety's the signatures are very different, but very very good, rivalls the ue10 pro customs aswell for sound, giving in my opinion a warmer more juicy sound

jinx I can agree with you when it comes to the first part, cannot when it comes wrt e500/ue10 comparisions. E500 despited being very good earphones cannot rival a custom earphone. I was a long time e500 user, switched recently to ACS T2 custom earphones (which are dual drivers) and I can honestly say that those perfectly balanced two drivers sound just better than Shures. The highs extension is there (lot of air and sparkles)... switching back to e500 the roll-off is just obvious highs sound bit muffled on Shures, midrange as good as shures (bit brighter more natural), great bass is still there.

I agree that pricewise, E500 might be a better option, because going customs you usually pay 100% more for ie. 20% of improvement. However stricly soundwise the customs are just superior, and once you get past that price point and get to hear good custom earphones you rather wont be looking back.

Kind of a bass-treble kind of headphone, if you know what I mean. Not that the mids are recessed, but they definitely have strong treble and bass; too much for some.

But if you like Ety's I'd give the ER4's a shot, and if you REALLY want to upgrade, go triple fi.

The Triple.Fi's do not have too much bass. They are not a bass heavy phone. They have bass quality, not quantity... which is what the OP seems to want. Some people don't like the way any universal UE product fits, but if you don't mind the way the SF3 fits, then you would love the Triple.Fi. In my opinion, the Triple.Fi sound better than the E500, and they are a little bit more comfortable than the Super.Fi line, probably because they have a more smoothed out, rounder body.

But between the E500 and Triple Fi, the TF definitely wins for sound quality but the E500 wins for comfort.

er4p>s is as good as it gets until you go custom.
