Hello all,

Just getting into the hobby. I presently have a set of Audeze LCD-2's I've owned for a few months that I've been using with an Asgard 3, and I want to buy a new set to use at work with my Schiit Hel.

I LOVE the LCD-2's but I'd like to try something different, with a different set of strengths and character compared to the LCD-2's.

I'm leaning towards closed backs to round out my collection but would consider open backs. I listen to everything, but favor female vocals, and classical for work, which is where I'll be using these. Price I'm looking is in ~$1,000 range or lower.

Tentative candidates:

Sennheiser HD 800 or 660
Dan Clark Aeon Closed
Fostex TH 610
Meze 99

Really appreciate any additional suggestions

The Hel doesn't have nearly as much power as the Asgard 3, so you need to be much more careful about what you pair with it.

Hel:
Maximum Power, 16 Ohms: 1200mW RMS
Maximum Power, 32 ohms: 1000mW RMS
Maximum Power, 50 ohms: 650mW RMS
Maximum Power, 300 ohms: 200mW RMS

Asgard 3:
Maximum Power, 16 ohms: 5W RMS per channel
Maximum Power, 32 ohms: 3.5W RMS per channel
Maximum Power, 50 ohms: 2.5W RMS per channel
Maximum Power, 300 ohms: 600mW RMS per channel
Maximum Power, 600 ohms: 300mW RMS per channel

From what I own? My top two are really good with vocals. Hyland Audio Jupiter One for an open back (~$500 after imports and all, bespoke, from the UK), Denon AH-D7200 for a closed back (~$900 new, got mine for ~$550 used in excellent condition off the forums here).

Thanks Silent - agree the Hel isn't ideal, but I see how this will go :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:...The Asgard 3 will migrate to work eventually and I'll get a tube hybrid for home...with that said, I still enjoyed the LCD-2's with the Hel - though the Asgard 3 is better...

Right now I'm leaning strongly toward Sennheiser HD 660S's...seems their sonic signature is pretty different from the LCD-2's...the Denon AH-D7200 seems like a very intriguing option as well (it was designed by Fostex - no?). Also still intrigued by the DCA Aeon Closed, but as planars they may be closer in signature to the LCD-2's...

This has been helpful - please continue!

Just ordered a used set of used Senn HD660S's on EBay - curious to see how they compare to the LCD-2's...thanks to all for their input!

I'm still considering some closed cans as well...Aeon2 closed top of the list right now...

Your neck is in for a real treat. The LCD2 are heavy :).
