Some news in the headphones world.

Teac has announced the new HP-F100 non-conventional headphone. Instead of having the sound travel down your ear canal, it transmits sound by inducing vibrations on the temple that travel down into your inner ear. This is therefore a bone conduction headphone as opposed to the conventional air conduction headphone.

There are bone conduction headphones out there. Some work by electromagnetism. Others work by piezoelectrics. Apparently this Teac technology is some "超磁歪式" type. I don't quite understand what that means since I'm not all that fluent in Japanese.

According to Teac, the middle ear is bypassed since the vibration is trasmitted through bone and directly to the inner ear. (Apparently, the hearing loss due to age is associated somewhat with the middle ear.)

Anyways, just delivering the news.

"超磁歪式" seems to be something like 'Super Magnetic-Strain Type'. My guess is it refers to the magnetic vibration created for 'reproducing' sound in the inner ear.
