I just came across this while trying to help someone find an OPA627.

That's taken direct from the datasheet and was certainly news to me. It looks like it just happened recently since the last update to that page of the datasheet was July 27!

What is of equal importance (to me at least) is that it looks like they have a replacement planned but that it's not ready yet. What sucks for builders is that all 3 of the major US Vendors (DigiKey, Mouser, Newark) are all out of stock already.

I wonder what will be replacing it.

Digikey and mouser have been out of stock of it for at least two months now, I checked back then to see if I could pick up some and they were out. Funny enough Digikey shows an estimated restock date of 2012

The OPA637BP is still in stock at Digikey.

Page 1 of the Addendum only lists a couple of models that are obsoleted. The website says "ACTIVE" for 627's in general:
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/opa627.html

They have a regular practice of obsoleting certain variants within a model line and then pick right up with new versions once the production is run. This might be all this is, perhaps.

Ah, I misread the sheet, stupid me. I was mislead by compounding evidence - TI's site has 0 in stock and 0 in production.

Yes indeed, for example my excellent sounding modded Toshiba 3950
