From REGAs site:

"Satin Metal Finish
From December 2002 all Rega electronics will be available in the stunning new 'satin metal silver finish'".

Picture of the Planet in this finish (I presume?):

Very nice. It matches the finish on my HP-1. Really, when paying a grand or so for an audio component, it'd be nice if you could expect to get good looks along with the sound you're looking for. Rega's going in the right direction.

KR, I agree. There's nothing that frustrates me more than seeing stuff like the Sony 777 in rich silver and gold finishes in the British audio mags...then being forced to buy them in ugly black here in the US!

Man, I didn't like the DACs Rega uses, but if I had to get a transport, I'd probably end up with a Rega. Probably wouldn't be the best transport, but I totally dig that "Metroid spaceship" look it has. And the loading system is a total doozy.

LOL! It does look a lot like the Enterprise... sinking in a tar pit or something

Haha, I always thought Rega's players looked like that, too. I don't really like their buttons and things either, but the finish is nice. ...

Personally, I have always thought the Rega players looked pretty slick. They are clean, simple, and just slightly unconventional.

That's too funny, it really does look like an Enterprise mold on top! Heck, since they've already got the space theme going w/ their Planet, they should name the next model Enterprise.

i bought mine from audiolab.com and i found them to have an awesome price and good service. call your order in though. i'm not sure if they have the new finish or not, but i imagine they will soon. you can ask.

the new finish is kinda cool, but the old one was damn cool too. the satin is softer, but the older silver finish is a bit rougher and coarser looking. i dunno, depends on what you like i guess. this player looks like it'd be a better match sitting next to my sugden headmaster though.

I'd have to agree with you too, black seems like the best colour for my Planet as well because of my black hifi rack and Senn HD600s.

Personally, I don't really like gold or silver finishes and I find the understated beauty of black just perfect...

That's my 2c.
