I decided to start  this thread for Sennheiser's new CX series earphones which was released at the IFA in September 2014.

Theres not much information on these the new series (at least on the american website, the UK website actually shows the CX 3.00) (The CX 300 (which the CX 3.00 replaces was a hugely popular earphone)

Edit: Nov 18,2014 (I moved my unboxing and first impressions video to the 3rd post: Click here to see it

I'm going to continually update this thread on my unboxing, Impressions and at the end my Overall Review of these two earphones. (plus a comparison video).

If you have any questions about them! Hit me up in the replies below! If you have their previous iterations, Please Chime In! I, myself would love to hear your feedback! as i'm sure many others as well.

Edit:November 8, 2014: My Longer term Impressions

Been meaning to update this thread, but have been busy for the last little while. Here are my slightly longer term impressions after about 2-3 weeks living with them! Review to follow!

CX 3.00- I think this is one of the most comfortable earphones I've tried, worn cable down. For those that don't know me, i always wear cable up, where i loop the cable around my ear. Why? well most earphones don't sit well for me wearing cable down, and as a result its not the most comfortable experience

Well i can say thats not the case here with the CX 3.00. The nozzle is angled perfectly so that definitely helps!

Also i'm surprised more companies aren't going for a more lower profile L shape jack thats present on both the cx 3.00 and the cx 5.00G. its much more convenient and easier to put into your jean/jack pocket without the cable sticking out=increase likelyhood for damage.

CX 5.00G - this earphone takes on the same approach with the CX 3.00, which is a great thing, low profile L shape jack. Angled nozzle, same eartips. I would say the cx 5.00G is just a hair less comfortable because the housing bigger than their little brother the cx 3.00, and sticks out of your ear a bit more and it is a bit heavier as well. But this overall there is not much difference in terms of comfort between the two.

but the biggest physical difference is the android controls. Now  i must say the controls, have good tactile feel, the centre as small bump which helps you "feel" which button is which without looking.

Sound- Now in terms of sound, just to take a quick snap shot. I will have a more detailed explanation in the full review!

However, I would say its easy to see or in this case hear that they share a similar sort of signature.

Which is a warm, bassy, a forgiving consumer sound. However, i would say  the CX 5.00G's bass is toned down and the treble is more extended than their little brother intended for those looking for a slightly more balanced sound. However, in absolute terms, neither of these earphones are neutral to begin with, and it doesn't try to act like it.

The CX 3.00 is definitely the earphone to get if you just live in the bass or the sub frequencies.

Its a sound that works really well for streaming music or low bitrate or compressed music. Making them an easy recommendation for someone looking to upgrade from their stock smartphone earphones.

My next update will be the full review! It should be up in the next week or so!

Not a single review, it's amazing! At least someone tell me that they're not worse than CX300 - design of which I don't like.

my apologies for the late reply!

but i found something astonishing today with the cx 3.00 and the cx 5.00G and i think you will be pleased!

happy accident!

i was cleaning the earphones, as i found some earwax slipping past the earphone and got caught on the foam filter. and took a small pin to pry out the earwax only to found the foam filter to be removable!!

and i decided to experiment with the earphones with the foam filter removed. and i can say it definitely changes the sound! its only been maybe an hour or so, but it does make different sounding! Toning down the bass, allowing the mids to breathe better and allow the treble to come out and play more

i will include this into my full review for both of these earphones! and i think this way it makes the both the cx 3.00 and cx 5.00G more easily recommendable for a wider audience.

Very interesting finding and i will continue to investigate!

Looking forward to your review as I'm sure these will be popular amongst the mainstream audience. Thinking about getting a CX1.00 as they're supposedly a more balanced-sounding offering.

For those of us who've had the CX68x series, CX8x0 series, CX980/985, this is nothing new. I'm really glad Sennheiser decided to go with foam wax guards on these newer models.

their a great departure in terms of just design and aesthetics from their predecessors. they look much more modern and sleeker overall. Glad to see!

Hi Tom,

The foam is basically a protective layer to prevent ear wax from reaching the earphone transducers. We do not recommend removal of the foam filter as this may increase the risk of transducer damage.

So, I'm assuming that he didn't know that they were removable because they don't come with at least one spare pair of guards. Maybe with the 1.00 and 2.00 but with the 3.00 and 5.00 that is not good enough. I'm am truthfully tired of the Senn accs. stuff. In the U.S. the MX880 should have had a decent case but none when I bought it. Same again for another model I bought. Also bought a CX985 and there was an error and only got the pouch was promised to be sent the case. Still waiting to this day!

Should at least include one spare pair if that was not the case and also make them more available and an affordable price at least here in the U.S.

yup i had no idea until i was cleaning them.

interesting findings! =) i like little nuggets like this, i'm nerdy like that to experiment. However, it is reversible so no harm no foul if you don't like it.

I'm sorry to hear that, i'm sure if you drop them another message they'll get back to soon!

uploading my reviews now! stay tuned!

Nice reviews! Thanks, I actually was graciously offered the pair by Rosmadi which I should have fairly soon. Interesting to see the guards in these phones as they have been changing. Seemingly other changes as the CX985, CX870 etc. were 32 Ohm phones and these are 18 Ohm.

Actually I was not really still waiting for the CX985 case. That was long ago and the CX985 is discontinued by now :) Of course that means a possible replacement at the $160 price point next year??
