Greetings Phone-o-philes,
As a recent convert to headphone audio, I've been pounding the pavements of this discussion group until my ears are spinning. You guys are dedicated. And very generous. So here's my thing. My hifi rig is in storage and I'm down to an i-Book and i-Pod as sources, with 100 gigs in i-Tunes. After reading a few thousand posts here, I called HeadRoom and ordered an AKG-701 for real listening and an AKG-81 for on-the-move i-Pod use. I listen to classical, soul, and jazz vocals, and I like a warm rich emotional sound with air and shimmer but no glare, no hardness in the highs. And comfort, comfort is big.
So 1) Can you endorse the 701 choice? And 2) How do I select an amplifier? HeadRoom recommends the Micro Amp/Dac combo, and for the moment that's my choice - because I like them over there at HeadRoom. But I know nothing about headphone amps, and there are so many. Meanwhile, I'm trying to relax the headband on the AKG-81, which grips your ears like a vice - and also hoping its top end glare will mellow with burn-in.
Thanks for any counsel you'd care to share.
Jeff
