I have a question to ask about the Etymotic 4S I recently got. How do you know when it's time to change the earpieces? I am using the white ones.

Are you talking about the silicon tips? I've cleaned mine with warm water and soap. I think they should last quite awhile. If you are talking about the filters. What i hear is when the highs start going away.

I change the filters when things sound mushy and distorted. However, if the process is gradual and you don't notice it quickly, the more money you will save on filter replacement.

Heh, I am cleaning my ears and silicon tips before use in a way which would have made my mommy so proud!

Hopefully this will keep the filter replacements down. (Honestly I had sort of forgotten about them...). How often do you find yourselves changing the filters?

My original question was about the silicon tips, I wasn't sure if they started to lose their sealing capabilities or just how I would know it was time to change them?

Make sure, as and when you wash your silicon tips that you allow them to dry FULLY, before you put them back on the ETYs...

You can kill the filters in the shower... so I daresay that if there is water in the tube of the silicon tip, that that can have the same effect
