First post (although I have been reading these forums for a month now)!

Ok, so I decided to get a Senn PX200. My reasons being that it seemed to be the cheapest pair of "good" closed phones.

I'm thrilled with it, but I have a complaint: (Although I never would have noticed this before coming to these forums and learning all about this stuff), the highs all seem to be a little, um, "not-so-sharp."

What would be a nice upgrade for me? I'm thinking er-6's because they're so small (I actually like the in-ear form factor) and the isolation would be wonderful. My only question before I buy them is: how much better will they sound then the px200's.

My source is undecided right now, but I plan on getting a flash player or MD player. And I don't plan on buying an amp. Later on, I think I'll buy an amp, but I don't see it happening in the near future.

In summary: Can someone recommend an in-ear (so I can sleep in them) major upgrade from the px-200's that can be easily driven without an amp (but would sound much better with an amp (for home use))?

Or should I just be content with the PX-200's and save my money?

Edit: Spelling corrected.

I bought a pair of px200 for me girlfriend. I use ety er-4s and thought the px200 just sounded like cheap headphones. But now she's used them for over a month, they sound so much better. Most headphones need burn-in time to really sound good. I would either just keep using your headphones and see how they sound or you can try just letting them run for a day or two straight and medium level and see if that improves them.

As for the er-6, I returned and got er-4 and haven't looked back. I thought the er-6 was a bit too harsh and not enough bass, but good detail.

Thanks for replying!

I'm wondering, now that your g/f's px-200's are broken-in, how do they sound compared to the Ety's?

Does anyone use the px200's for jogging?
Also, does an amp make a big difference with the PX-200's? I'm thinking maybe instead of getting better phones, I should just get an amp instead, and for jogging, just assume these will break in eventually. I only have 20 hrs tops on these cans.

Thanks in advance for reading and replying!!!

I think the px200 sound better than the er-6, much more bass and not as harsh. Using an Ipod, they really don't need an amp. I've tried them with a Meta42 and it just doesn't improve them enough to justify the amp. I don't think you need an amp on any headphone under $100.

The er-4s are in a completely difference sound category. I have the er-4p with a 4p to 4s converter cable and the Headsave Transit (Meta42) www.headsave.com This just incredible sound. Too hard to explain without hearing it. But the heaphone are $270, the amp $160, and the converter cable $50, so it should sound that much better.

You might try the Shure E2 for about $100. Most people like it better the er-6 and it doesn't need an amp. The er-4p without an amp is the the way to go if you want to spend the money. Then you can follow the upgrade path I took without replacing your headphone.

The Shure E2 can easily be had on ebay for $80 shipped. So do you think I should sell my PX200 and get these. I paid $52 for my px200 and I assume I could prolly get 35 for them. So should I pay $55 to upgrade from px200s to a Shure E2? Or pay another $20 and get the Er-6? Do these phones have crisper highs?

Sorry if I'm annoying with all my Q's but I'm really new at this.

As a generalisation, Give the PX200's some burn-in time. at least 48hrs. then see how you feel. if you like 'em, great, if you don't get something else.

In general, most cans get better after 48-100 hrs burn in.

that said, i'm not familiar with the PX200's.

Ok I'll try "burning them in." I'll attach them to my cd player, cover it with blankets, and let it sit for 2 days. I'll get back to you with how it sounds.
