hi guys this is my first post.

I'm an undergraduate currently living in singapore, and I am interested in getting a new headphone. I lost my ATH-ES5 a little while ago, which is such a loss because i think its the best in terms of value for money. I replaced them with a pair of sony MDR-E888LP but heck, i need some more.

so i've finally managed to collect around $200. is the ES7 a good choice? it's around $140 here (converted). I've read a lot in this forum, but i need more detail... i'm in for the SQ and looks. I was thinking about the ESW9 but it is almost double the price; and the improvement over the ES7 is not that significant IMHO.

my DAP is the old sony NW-HD5, i love the SQ so much (sonicstage sucks balls though).

thx in advance for your enlightenment!

Does your opinion that the ESW9 isn't much better than the ES7 mean you have heard them both? If you have heard them, trust your ears, they will guide you better than any advice hear.

I think that if you are looking for some portable closed cans, these are your best bet. You might wanna check out the D1000 as welll from denon. They are more comfy, but seem to have less detail to me.

The ESW9's are supurb! They are finiky until you find the right amp. I heard them on about 5 different portable amps and a handful of desktops. I would amp the es7's and do the blu-tak and cotton mods because they become just that much better afterwards.

yup , the ESW9 is indeed superb. I'll say that it's probably one of the best portable closed-cans at that price range. I've got my ESW9 at Stereo causewaypoint during one of my visit to singapore. I'm sure you must have heard of that place. Great staff with fantastic range of products. They don't bother u too much when u audition but offers advice when u look lost.

hey thanks guys!

yes, i've had the chance to test both, but i'm curious (in ES7's case) about whether it is one of, if not the best in its price range, as said afterwards about ESW9's case.

regarding my considerations for ES7 vs ESW9, i found that ESW9 truly needs an amp- which I am unfamiliar with. i'm new

any suggestions about amps or other enhancements for my sony NW HD5?
back to ESW9, though, my main issue is the price. but if it is like hellopanda said then i will definitely think more about it.

soo... dillematic. lol
