Hey guys, I know I sound like a total nOOb asking this: what exactly is a meet? I mean, I have a general idea from reading the forum dedicated to them, but what is involved in a meet? Forgive the idiocy, lol.

A meet is an informal gathering of 2 or more head-fi members ... and sometimes non-members ... for the purpose of socializing and sharing listening experiences with each other by pooling their headphone equipment and setting it up at the meeting place for demonstration. Meets are most often held at a volunteer member's home or workplace, although sometimes a space is rented. Sometimes a manufacturer or two will also show up. Usually the attendees for any given meet are from the same geographic area, although sometimes members will travel quite a distance to attend.

These meets have occurred and continue to occur all over the world. Most often, someone brings along a camera so that photos as well as meet/listening impressions can be shared with other members here in the forums.

I don't think there is any difference, I believe 'meet' is head-fi slang for a meeting.

I think there's a subtle difference between "meet" and "meeting". IMO, a meeting refers to a group of people getting together to plan or discuss something, whereas a "meet" involves getting together to "do" something....as in "track meet" or "corvette owners meet".

Not specific to Head-Fi, but in general, "meetings" are not fun.
However a Head-Fi "meet" is usually quite a blast!
