Hello all,
I am no stranger to audio. I have been an avid HT/2 channel enthusiast for many years. My lacking is in the area of headphones.

I have received from my fathers estate (he passed a few weeks ago) the above mentioned headphones. Just the 'phones. No amp or anything.

I have NO experience with electrostatic headphones. I would appreciate some guidance on what is neede to make these work. Do I need to watch ebay for an amp? Is there another way to power these? Will this cost me alot of money? Basically, what are my options? I would like to put these to use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
James

Hi,

There was both a pro and non-pro version of SRX-mk3. If the connector has 5 pins it is pro version, if it has 6 pins it is the normal version.

All current Stax energizers (SRM series) and most older ones will power the pro version. Some of the current energizers and many older ones will power the normal version. So the first thing to do is figure out if it is a pro set or not.

For a non-pro version you could get an old driver (SRD series) that hooks up to the speaker outputs of a power amp/integrated amp/receiver for cheap, probably less than $100.
