I decided that I want a cd walkman in addition to my mp3 player. I haven't looked at cd walkmans in quite a long time. I surprised to see that rio has completely abandoned the market. It looks as if Sony is the only brand to choose for cd walkmans. Here's what I'm looking for and maybe someone could recommend something for me. I need:

Backlit LCD screen on cd walkman
ability to play cd-rw with mp3
I'd like to have artist and title displayed along with track number.
I'd like the color to be blue, silver, or black. I'm sorry what's with the orange?

I like to listen to a cd walkman in bed, it helps me sleep so that's why I need the backlight. I used to have a Riovolt SP250 which I absolutely loved but the case broke first and then one night the walkman just stopped working. I haven't been able to find but 1 sp250 and that was on ebay. Any help or sites would be greatly appreciated.

It's too bad that it seems iRiver jumped ship on CD players as well, because IMO, they made the best of the best. I still have my SlimX 350 after 2 years and is is TEH BomB! (It certainly served as a nice replacement for my Rio SP90, that was a piece of crap. I did have a certain fondness for the SP250 though)

Anyway, have you tried looking at Panasonic? They might have what you are looking for.

Yeah,

I like panasonic's walkmans but I really would like and lcd display on the cd it self. I will probably end up buying that over a sony though. I found sp250 on ebay but I'm scared to buy it. You never know what you're getting from sellers there.

The Rio units sucked, BAD. Anyway, I'd get a D-NE920, you can pick a blue one up from an importer. It has a display on the unit and a backlit remote, I'm not sure whether the screen on the unit is backlit but I severely doubt that it is. Anyway, it's about 56.9 times better than the SP250 since it gets more than 5 hours of battery life.

Second recommendation for D-NE920. Be aware of its cheaper brother in D-NE520. I'd shy away from D-NE520 (unless I had a defective unit) because of couple of issues:

Addendum: On-Unit LCD is indeed backlit for both units.

1) Does not recharge battery on unit
2) Small, droning buzzing sound during silence.

IT's older and better brother D-NE920 does recharge battery on unit, has digital out and line-out, on unit LCD, and hopefully, the same Digital AMP along the lines of D-NE20 (which is noise free).

seeberg:
The SP250 was infact a iRiver unit (SP100? and SP250 were both iRiver units), basically a black version of IMP250. Was a mighty fine PCDP back in the day, and one of my first premium portable hardware I owned.

Haha, that's weird because the SP90 was the biggest pos on the planet, it got like 5 hours of battery, took like 2 minutes to load a disc and was quiet as crap.

I know, but that SP90 seemed like it had an independent QA check from iRiver specifically, noting how sh**y it was(it's as if RioVolt imported it from iRiver, kicked it and poured liquid inside it and then sold it to me, not so with iRiver).

Definitely not worth ever having the iRiver logo stamped on it, that's for damn sure
