hello

I need a new pair of headphones but i dont know which ones to get. Basically, I have two things i will use them to:
-computer gaming
-listening to music using a CDwalkman i have at home

I will use them every day after school til late eavning so they need to be comfortable as a pillow and they also need to be very durable(i have had like 10 pairs of headphones that broke after some months). I was thinking about either getting the Sennheiser HD590 or the HD600. The reason for that is simply cuz those are the only good headphones they sell in this hellhole town i live in.

Anyway, you think i should go for one of those or is there other ones that would fit my hobbies, demands etc. better?

If you're not planning on purchasing a dedicated headphone amp - I would go with the 590's. They are more sensitive and have lower impedence than the 600's, making them much easier to drive properly. They should be fairly comfortable, but try them on first - some do not like the Sennheiser bionetic line. The 600's can be powered by a portable or soundcard, but the won't sound their best. Both should be relatively durable, if well taken care of. Another option is the 580's - very similar sound to the 600's but cheaper and less cosmetically damagable (if that makes any sense). The 580's are solid plastic and can take quite a bit of abuse (a friend of mine has had them for three years and they spend most of the time on his head, on the floor or falling between those two locations).

We're all having problems right now.

At least you made it to the big 2!

And back to the original question, agree with dd3mon. If you stick around this site long you'll end up with an amp, so at least consider the 580/600's. The 590's have a strong small following though. And don't be confused by the model numbers. The 580 & 600's will sound much closer than the 590's. They are all very nice, though. With the lower impedance, the 590's work in a wider variety of situations (portables, etc.).

Good luck.

I went for the 590. I really like them but i think the pressure on my ears is quite annoying, but i can live with it. I suppose you get used to it to.

Anyway, when i plug them into my computer i hear an annoying background noise all the time. And when i move my mouse it also makes a weird low "drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". Its like the phones were made like, to be on a really high volume by default. I have to have the volume bar on the computer very very low cuz otherwise the sound will be way to high. I hear the same noise if i connect my stereo speakers to the comp and turn the volume to max on the amp. Its really annoying and if there is a solution to the problem i would really like to know of it.

Your problem is your headphone are too good for your soundcard. Good headphone pickup every little detail. Bad soundcard send all the electronic noise of the computer, mouse moving, hard drive searching into the sound. The only solution is to get a better soundcard. People seem to like the M-Audio stuff altho I haven't tried it. I don't lisent to much music on my computer. So I don't care much for my soundcard. Search in the source forum.

There your problem. onbord sound card are the most prone to leak all the garbage into audo.

If you want a cheap fix go with soundblaster at least live or audigy I have a sblive. You won't hear the computer electronic noise. If you want someting "audiophile" quality well search around in the source forum people here seem to like M-Audio a lot.

A cheap but pretty good solution might be an AudioTrak Opto Play. If you're lucky you'll find one at a CompUSA near you and they're only $50. Blows away the sound quality out of my Audigy Platinum ex!

_EDIT_

Oops sorry, didn't notice that you're in Finland... uh you might order one or see if they are available somewhere there...
