I will start off by saying that I am new to the forum but have been heavily reading for a few weeks. I want a new set of closed cans and I am looking for some good direction. Here is kind of where I am at now and what I own or have at least listened to to for any amount of time to make a well formed decision about my likes. I am by no means an audiophile looking for top quality but just a good clean balanced sound.

OK, with that out of the way, here we go.

I have listened to or own these headphones: Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 (Listened to a good bit), Kicker HP541 (Own), Etymotic ER-6 (Own), Bose QC-15 (Used for 2 weeks), and I have tested out the Beats Studio (Disappointed in them) and the Beats Pros (Kind of liked but I was only able to listen in Best Buy and at retail they are way over priced.) I just ordered the Klipsch Reference S4 Premiums for $50 but haven't gotten them to evaluate them yet and just for some light weight listening. I am using a the Fiios E6 amp on an Ipod or on my Samsung Galaxy S3. Not the best sources I know.

My music tastes vary pretty good which is where I run into my problems. I like R&B, Rap, Jazz, Country, and some Rock. I would say more often that not, on the headphones it would be between Rap, R&B, and Country mostly. One the R&B side I will listen to anything from current hits to people like John Legend, Maxwell, and Kem and some of the good female R&B stand outs.

With the 700MK2s the bass lover in me was VERY satisfied with the E6 hooked up. I was pretty disappointed when it came to the highs and mids on anything other than rap though. The Kicker HP541s were definitely much more refreshing over the 770MK2s aside from the big lack of bass. The 541s also seemed to get much more static and buzz at higher volumes on the amp. Without the amp they sounded pretty good but still lacking a bit in clarity for my tastes. The Beats Pros weren't horrible and seemed like they would improve a good bit with an amp. I have seen them used locally for around $200 which makes the unjustified price not seem so bad. The bass was good in the store display was pretty good so I imagine it to only be better on amp but that is me guessing. The Beats Studios.......... enough said. :P The QC15s sounded pretty good but I think that was more attributed to the noise cancelling and hearing only the music more so that the overall quality of the set. I like my ER-6s but the low bass output is there too.

What I want is something with a better quality sound than the Kickers and somewhere "near" the MK2s in bass response. I definitely feel safe to say that I am sensitive to high frequencies. I have installed high end home audio and theaters for around 15 years and always differ in the opinions with "good" sounding speakers based on my dislike for extremely bright highs when the next guy loves them. I don't know if a used set of Beats Pros amped would be anywhere near what I want or not. I have read some about the Sennheiser HD 25-1 ii, the Ultrasone Pro 900 and HFi780, the Pioneer HDJ-1000, as well as the ATH M50s. I just don't know the attributes of each on or off of the E6 amp.  I don't know of any local places for me to test them out so it is going to be a gamble when buy.

I am SORRY for the long read but I wanted to offer as much as possible to hopefully simplify choices. Thanks ahead so much for any advice you guys may have.
