When it come to portable audio i am a complete newbie. I have built speakers, and am building some gainclone power amps, but thats all for in the home obviously.

I decided to get more serious about my portable audio as well, as too often i get seriously frustrated when out and about. So i did a load of research and am going to buy a pair of Ultimate Ears Super Fi 5 pro's (just an aside, i have been in contact with them a little and they have been great).

Anyway, to the point. I like the idea of making the most of it, so i would like to invest in a portable amp. I have looked around and read posts on this forum (including the big review one, but felt a little swamped) i did like the look of the GoVibe 6 but obviously it isn't in production any more, and possibly a little over my budget. So im just looking for some advice really, if you would be so kind. Also, i live in England and so getting hold of one might turn out to be an issue.

Cheers,

You can consider the meier models which are produced in europe. The MOVE is getting very good reviews around here.
You can also look at the for sale forum and try to manage something for a good price.
Can you define your budget please ... ?

I guess in your terms it would be $100, i know it's not very much, but it's a start.

There is a GoVibe 6 for sale here, but shipping to the UK, and me being a newbie ... i have been around enough forums to know thats not a good combination.

Would the iBasso T2 be suitable to use with UE super fi 5 pros?

Also, could someone please recommend a good iPod line out to 3.5mm adapter? I can't seem to find any decent ones.

How much do you wanna spend on the cable?
You can PM TURBO. He makes custom cables including ipod line out docks. There's also Audio Line Out, but that would be a bit expensive for you i think ...

Try audiolineout.net, you can get both the Ibasso as well as a decent dock from Ken.

Alternatively you could pm user Turbo to get a LOD.

If you only want to spend a little, you could always get a cMoy from eBay.

cMoy would be great, if i had time to make one myself. Couldn't justify buying a ready made one with my DIY audio bug. But cheers for the info, definitely something to consider for down the line.

Being new round here shouldn't be a problem buying from the FS forum, as long as you're prepared to pay up-front: you can't post, but you can respond to ads by private message. Buying used will give you much better value for money. I'd recommend hanging around there for a few weeks, and something should come up - a used Porta Corda or Go-Vibe would fit your budget and needs nicely.

I'm a "newbie", but on the 'bay auction site you may be able to get a Practical Devices XM4 shipped within your budget.

It appears to be rated in the lower middle range in the reviews, but I've found it to be an enjoyable amp. I've come to appreciate the bass boost and crossfeed features for some albums (be advised that the crossfeed feature does noticeable lower ouput, though).

I mention the amp as I lent it to a fellow worker who uses IEMs and he liked it (IEMs are not for me, personally).

Thanks for the input everyone. After more reading around and talking with a couple of people, i think im going to hold out, save some money and possibly get a DAC/port amp. And do more reading in the mean time, and no doubt end up wanting something even more expensive. But what do you expect with audio techno gadgets?
