Hey guys I'm really new to this audiophile world, but I'm madly enamoured with a great listening experience. I'm trying to make the most out of my gear.

Right now I listen to music from my PC via a Schiit Modi 2/Magni 2, Shure 1540, or Sennheiser 598(what a difference the Schiit stack makes), and J River media center.

Which basically sums it up; I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm hesitant to touch anything, or tweak the EQ, for fear of damaging the gear.

Pretty much I'm looking for advice or insight about what to focus on, and what not to focus on, IE: how to EQ, what media player to use(J River? Foobar?), do I need to update drivers(asio4all?), etc.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

You can't hurt the gear by adjusting the EQ. Well, unless you are listening at extremely loud volumes already and start over boosting things dramatically. But I think your ears would tell you to stop.

Theres plenty of variations that can keep you occupied for a while. Theres also equalizers so you can alter the sound to your taste, if you wish. Above all else just enjoy your music and yourself.  Have fun.
