Hey guys!

My history of headphones: I use an ipod touch an listen to rap and r and b a lot. I also occasionally listen to rock and alternative and chill music.

Anyways, I bought sennheiser cx300 before and sony ex75 before. They all broke in less than about 1 year.

I want to move up to something better. I was looking at amazon.com for etymotic ER6i but worried about the bass...would the bass be somewhat good if i use the EQ to bass booster on my ipod touch. They are selling for 60 on amazon and not through a third party. I checked etymotic but they dont mention if amazon is an authorized dealer though.

I was also looking at the shure se115. They are selling for 100 on amazon or 62 bucks thru sarjo wholesalers. Would you trust sarjo? If yes I would probably get those.

I want to spend less than 100 on earbuds.

Thanks!! Please help as I am deciding tonight.

The lower end Shure's aren't very good. I would suggest the RE0. Highly recommended here on head-fi

i would actually go with the klipsch S4. They got a 2 year warranty and sound great after around 100 or so hours of burn in. They go for $79 shipped from sound earphones but you can get them cheaper in the FS threads if you search for them.

Since you seem worried about the bass of the ER6i it *probably* is not enough for your tastes coming from a cx300. The same can probably be said for the RE0.

I've got similar music tastes to you and I bought the RE0s a few days ago, hopefully they'll come soon. Of course you're coming from the bass heavy CX300s so you might not be satisfied with them at first.

So the er6i with bass booster probably wont help too much eh?

So you think the klipsch is probably the best for under $100? I want to make sure they last more than a year at the absolute least.

Seems from ilounge that the klipsch got a B where the etys got an A.

You would go for the klipsch over the shure se115? I dont really want RE0, wanna stick to the more name brand headphones.

From what I've seen around here Hifiman/Head Direct are decent companies (I mean, they've got their own dedicated forum, so they can't be that unknown). However, I get what you mean. The etys are known for their accuracy, but not for their bass. That isn't to say there isn't any, you may find that after listening for a while you like them (never owned them so I can't say from personal experience).

Just remember, the more famous the brand the more you'll pay (look at Monster).

Thanks! So which you think should last longer the shure se115 or the denon AH-C551K?
I want something that is not bad in the bass department as I listen to Rap and R and B a lot and rock sometimes (sometimes Jason mraz and chill music like death cab for cutie).

If you dont want the RE0 or the S4, since its hard to recomend the SE115, sound like you would be happy with the Denon AH-C551K.

I never owned either. I do have a pair of shure SCL3s and as best I can tell they're solid. The cord is thick and they've survived a year of abuse in and out of my pockets. I can also give you my review of my RE0s when they arrive.

If you're thinking Denon then then why not the C710 or C751? The C551 are decidedly not on the same level as the RE0 or even the Klipschs.

The C710 and C751 are too expensive.

I am looking at the shure se115- $60
Denon C551-$54
Etymotics (most likely not but ill just put it here) - $62.

The denon C751 is $96 and dont really feel like spending that much.

The klipschs are $80 and are just a bit over my budget as well.

I would have a hard time recommending any Shure IEMs at the moment. I've had three pairs which have all had shorts develop in the cable in less than a year of use. If you don't mind being with out them for a little while, you can send them away for warranty replacement through Shure provided you buy from an authorized dealer. Sometimes they will be nice and replace them if you don't - but don't count on this as I've had Shure refuse to replace an IEM that purchased new in box from an unauthorized seller, despite the fact that the cord developed a short in three months of use. I think I treat my gear pretty well, but I have had no had good experiences with Shure's products.
