Hi,

I have been reading, searching and just looking aroud here for the last month and now consider myself hooked on Head-fi. After reading many posts I invested in a pair of ety 4P phones to go with my iPod. This really my first exposure to Hi-Fi and WOW!! Anyway back to my question...I have also contacted a well known amp builder here to build up a portable META 42 for me. I spec'd out built in 4P->4S resistors to convert to the more audiophile sound of the 4S while using the amp. Problem is what if I want to use another set of cans in the future. I thought about getting a converter cable and leaving the amp as is but I hate the clutter the extra cable creates (this is why I never use the iPod remote). I asked the builder if 2 output jacks can be installed (one with resistors, one straight) but there is no room in the Serpac enclosure. Should I sacrifice the portability of the Serpac case and get a larger enclosure (with both jacks) or leave well enough alone and figure I will need another amp to go with a closed type of headphone in the future?

thanks for any comments....

Sorta up to you. You could look at other Serpac enclosures (there are many) to allow you to fit both jacks or just get/make an adapter cable.

The cable itself can be very short... the shortest converter cable that Fixup makes is only ~ 5 inches. So, ought not be a big deal to add 5 " to the overall length of your headphone cable.

If you knew this would be THE amp for your Etys, would make sense to add the jack to the amp and be done.

BTW: Congratulations on your new acquisitions! The Etys + META =

iPod is totally cool as well.

Be prepared to be very happy.... and very sad. Happy because you will rediscover music and have the option of bringing it with you everywhere.

Sad because this place and this obsession are ADDICTING! Will likely see the contents of your wallet evaporate as you start thinking about upgrading your source, purchasing a home amp/source/phones/cables.

Let me be the first to offer the usual welcome...

Welcome to headfi! Sorry about your wallet.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback...

I am already finding myself looking at other equipment...will it ever end?

I find head-Fi to be a wealth of information and filled with great folks.

thanks
Rob
