I just picked up a M-Audio audiophile USB for my G4 PowerMac. I have a couple of cans, Beyer DT770 and Grado SR60. I use itune for my player encoded with Apple Lossless Encoder. I would like to know if the audiophile is a good buy at $125. I would like to someday upgrade to a headphone amp. Will this be a good source or can i do better with out spending more thank $300? What other option do i have that you can recomended me? Also what about the total bithead, will i make a better DAC (the amp part is a plus).
I've tried the setup today and find it pretty good, but nothing to wow over. My speaker rig consist of Hales spkr, Cradas cables, Merdian cdp, and Classe pre and amp. This give you an idea of what i expect from my rigs. I know that my computer will not be as good, but it is convient in my office and would like to get the best sound as possible with out breaking the bank.
