which op amp should I get for a brighter analytical sound ?

To be honest I'd look at other DAPs if bright and analytical is your preference. Unfortunately I've never heard any bright DAP (to my ears) so I've got no suggestions but I'm sure others will be able to help.

My DP-X1 is more analytical than the "budget" DAPs I've got (Cayin N3, Shanling M2s, Shanling M1, Zishan Z1, Walnut V2).

I haven't done enough opamp swapping, to see if the Z1 or V2 can be brightened-up, to sound similar to the DP-X1.

OK, something scary/dangerous happened today

I received my Z1 on May 15th, and I just left it in my office to burn in at my normal listening volume. Today I got to my office and noticed my Z1 was playing REALLY REALLY LOUD! it basically made my KSC75 into little speakers...

now I think back, I felt the volume on Z1 was a little bit underwhelming when I first tried it, but I let it slide because it was mentioned on this thread that Z1 has less power than Walnut V2

for reference, if the min is at 5 o clock position on the pot, then I had to turn it to 12 o clock when I first got it for burning in... i guess now the volume is "OK" 12 o clock is bloody murder... Hope my KSC75s are not damaged...

philosophy on burn-in aside, I sure glad I did the burn-in and avoided guarantee ear damage >_<

For those who like to swap op-amps, here is a very useful tool, 1$ only:

Get the LME49720NE, it makes the Z1 airier and more analytical.
I mean: more airy sound with higher detail retrieval. Relatively brighter but not bright per se :p
BB OPA627AU ? or Lme49720 ? any other suggestion? thanks
For me the LME49720NE works really nice and quite flat, not much of a bass-punch here. It sounds quite airy, guitar strings ring very nicely. I wouldn't call it analytical but very pleasing and clear.

Did anyone try the V5i in the Zishan yet? To me this is the most superior op amp in the Walnut but unfortunately my Zishan doesn't work properly so I can't use the V5i in it. :frowning2:

And on another note: My Walnut V2 arrived today and I find it really good and nice but a bit too dark and imho it doesnt have enough resolution and clarity. The Z1 is better in this field (especially with the LME49720NA).

Dark and crackly is why old farts like me like it. Reminds us of 70s/80s sound.

Alright here are my findings about a couple of OPAMPs.

The OPA2460 is definitely an improvement over the stock one. It improves clarity and gives it a punchy bass. Sounds really nice however I found the LME49720NA to have even better clarity and a less boomy bass then the stock one and than the OPA2460. I kept the LME49720NA in mine and I'm gonna do a side by side comparison with my Oppo HA-2 this weekend.

btw, after all the hype about the VE Monks+ I have to say I find them good, certainly for 5$ earbuds, but overall they're okay... Just not as "hifi, audiophile" whatever as some people describe it.
After giving it another listen I would have to agree with you the 4972 is less woolly in the lower registers and has better separation all around enhancing the top end. The 2604 worked great with my Grado SR80e, thinking 4972 might be too bright for the SR80e.

I did. I liked it very much. Look at my post a few pages back. I decided to put it in something else though, where I could hear it's proficiency better.
What's wrong with your Z1?

ad8620 has most airy and detailed sound i ever listened with various headamps but not with Z1..
You mean bad synergy with z1? Or you didn't tried yet?
Just ordered 3 of the LME49270HA for the Z1. Absolutely fantastic pairing with the ZS3.
What kind of improvement did you notice?
