Distracted by the hustle and bustle of visiting NYC for the first time, I accidentally left my Super.fi 5 Pros out for the taking. Complete with their metallic bling case, what passerby couldn't resist? By the time I remembered what I had done they were long gone.

Case, headphones, $250 of musical bliss and the countless hours we spent together, no more. It's as if a little part of my being has been ripped out of me, through my ears, and squished. It was a sad day.

If not for my trusty KSC75's ($15 and I'll probably NEVER lose them) I don't know what I would do. It took me a lot of self control not to spring for a new set of S.F5p's when I saw them in the apple store a few days later for $250 plus tax. The Koss have been doing a wonderful job as a substitute but the kiddies are starting to throw their paper airplanes; it's again time to move on.

Ultimate Ears has been amazing, I found no faults with the Super.fi 5's and enjoyed their sound signature immensely. UE customer support is fabulous, they sent me a replacement aluminum case free of charge and they stand by their products. It's for these reasons I'm considering another 5 Pro.

My adventurous side however tells me to try something else. I've never owned Sennhesiers, and 580s look interesting. I am also interested in Audio Technica A500's or maybe some Beyer DT990s. I'm not a basshead but I do enjoy good bass. Thats among the reasons I prefer the Super.fi 5's over Sure E4Cs or Etymotic ER6s. I dont' want to spend more than $250, so aside from maybe a really great deal on a UM2, I don't have many IEM options.

I liked the IEM's for portable use (though the KSC's have taken up that role) and of course, for isolation. I might have to buy some more IEM's just for use in noisy environments. I was getting ready to buy some full size cans anyways, before I lost the IEM's but now I'm back a step. It's only more confusing because I know my options. What to do...what to do head-fi?

I'm not at all experienced in the realm of IEM's but my suggestion is maybe you could spring for a semi IEM such as the cx-300 or something in that range and spend the rest on a full sized headphone? Also look out for some good deals on the FS forums. Feel free the improve, fix or disagree with my suggestion

Damn that sucks. Sorry for your loss man. I would probable look for an upgrade to make me feel better.

Seriously if you were happy with the Super.fi 5 Pros then perhaps just go for them again. Then again perhaps you could wait & check out the e500, or like you said be on the lookout for a deal on the UM2.

Durn, one-a my worst nightmares. Just as a desperate measure, post some flyers that, y'know, nobody else would want ot use those 5pros, small reward, etc. lost 'n found also, cuz they don't look that impressive. I know also that Todd's close to NYC, probably some other sponsor retailers as well, get you emergency replacements fast.

Last time I was in NYC, I kept my E3c and ety 6i's stuffed in my ears the whole time to cut the noise (west coast wussy).

At the same time? Erm...yes...

Anyways sorry to hear that, but now it's a perfect time to upgrade. If you really liked the 5 pros though you may want to go back to them. The sound signature of the Super-fis are very unique in IEMs. Closest would be E4 or UM2.

Condolences. I've heard stories of people who have had their IEM's "pick-pocketed" while still in their ears in NYC...

The pickpockets are that good...Actually, I was kidding. I don't think anyone could be that good. Can you imagine the person not even noticing the dissappearance of the music let alone the IEM's?

No word of a lie, when I first got my iPod I was actually paranoid that someone would steal it and replace it with a cheaper mp3 player set at the exact same moment in the music as my iPod had been.

I knew how stupid it was, I just couldn't stop thinking about it.

The best way to wear Shures, with their "over the ear" cord, is to run the cord under the back of your shirt. It would take one hella-good pickpocket to pinch them, assuming you had them on. Wearing them this way, if not in use, they hang over your shoulders at the ready.

I have had Shure E3c's which I do not reccomend, and the E4c's which I really love (w/ foamies for best bass response and isolation). Until the E500's come out, I'm happy. I FEAR the E500, because I doubt I'll be able to resist it.

Sorry about your loss; that really sucks. Perhaps the thief in question will become addicted to good sound, wind up on head-fi, and repent.

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel.

My Ety ER4-s' where stolen off of my desk at work. I am a very laid back guy, and that REALLY pissed me off. Of course none of the security cameras saw the action. Lucky for me my company is cool and bought me a new pair. As my manager said "this is a corporate environment and you should be able to leave something on your desk and expect it to be there when you come back the next day."

Your company and manager seem cool. Thank your lucky stars I guess. Now, start thinking hard about who at work might of taken them...then get pist off!
