Hi all,

Tested out some dt 880s yesterday and really liked em especially vs. the bassy 770s. I'm close to pulling the trigger on the 250 ohm version as my current set-up is an emi 26 interface w/ a mac g4, without an amp (heard the 880s through the apogee duet at the store - pretty sweet).

I did a search and didn't really see any info right off the bat on the forum re: new beyer 880s being released.

Wondering if anyone knows about any new versions of the 880s on the way (from the '03, '05 progression, it would seem that we are due for an updated 08-09 model....)

Thanks.

I'm quite content with the DT880/2003. : )

I haven't heard the 2005 model, but the 2003 is excellent. Don't worry about product refreshes, just buy good headphones. Besides, if a new model was coming, they probably would have rolled it out by now for holiday sales.

Please make your title less confusing by asking if anyone knows of a new '08 DT880 model rather than implying you know of a new '08 model. It will save many of us from clicking on your title to find out about the new DT880.

fair enough. was looking for some answers + admittedly made the subject a little misleading...

+ was hoping some beyer employees might read this and get a new edition on the way since the 05 dt 880s are said to be a step down from the 03s.

i'm guessing beyer dt 880s 03s aren't available new?

Not everyone thinks the '05s are a downgrade from the '03s, I guess the only way to find out which one you like more is to try both out

I agree. Why go on a wild goose chase when the '05s are more than good enough?

i enjoy the hunt and i'd rather get it right the first time.

did like the 880s when i demoed them this week. with their "accuracy" though, some music did end up sounding a little bland (i realize that's more a reflection on the mixing and quality of the music).

guess i'm now wondering if there any peers to the dt 880s that deliver a more "entertaining" (interpret "entertaining as you will" - do want a relatively accurate reflection of how the music was intended to be heard though) boost to the music they play?

A friend (in Northern Europe) had pre-2003, 2003, and then 990/250, and finally dt990/600. Wanna guess the clear winner - dt990/600. I did not own the pre 2003 (I think it's actually 1988, not not sure at this time).....but, having had the 2003 dt880, and both 2005 dt880/600 and dt990/600 - the only one I kept is 2005 dt990/600. Ditto my has also retained 2005 dt990/600. The only caveat is you want an amp providing GOOD power. Amps typically built for 'phones of moderate needa are simply not enough. I use Corda 'german built' Prehead..........there are others.

i like them a great deal. when it comes down to it, though, the DT880s are every bit as good and seem to present a more "put together" sound, however. i think it could have something to do with my suboptimal speaker placement so i will reserve final judgment for when i get some real monitor stands and some mopads.
