New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
May 15, 2021 at 7:01 AM Post #8,836 of 9,406
I was away for a few months and came back to my SP1000M with the battery swollen and separated the back from the body. Has anybody had this happen to them. I've been trying to find how to get this fixed but can't seem to find anything in the A&K website. Does anybody know how I can get this repaired? Thanks!

Our US support team tested 3 different SP1000s running the latest firmware with Mac and all are recognized and output sound without issue.

Can I ask what version of MacOS you are using? Also are you using an Intel-based or M1 based Mac?

Thanks, I'm running 0.15.7 (19H1030) on an Intel-based Mac (16" MacBook Pro).

Also, it looks like Roon draining the battery is because once it goes into Roon mode, it stays there (presumably waiting for a Roon core to stream to it). Makes sense, although I have no idea how to exit this mode once in it.

When Roon Ready is turned on in the settings menu, it will attempt to contact your Roon Core at regular intervals, which prevents the player from going into sleep or auto-off. Best to turn Roon Ready off in the settings menu when not using it.

Guys, does anyone had the problem with 2.5mm plug getting loose?
The sound in the right ear is disrupting. The problem appeared about 2 months ago, and at first I thought that the issue is in the cable, because when I went to the shop and tried different pairings, the cable wasn't working with other DAPs as well.
I got it repaired, and they changed the termination, however, the problem is still there. And now, I think that initially the problem was in the player's plug getting loose and in consequence damaging the cable pin.
@JasonNYC I tried to find a mail address for inquries on the AK website, but there was none. Could you, please, help me contact the support?

It looks like you are located in Australia. For global customer support - iriver@iriver.com.

I would also recommend reaching out to the dealer where you purchased the player from as they can help arrange support and repair service.

Update on Tidal app:

Thank you for your patience over the last month as Astell&Kern’s engineering and software development teams have been working hard to implement updates to the embedded Tidal app. As this is third-party software that needs to be integrated into more than a dozen different players, it has taken a bit of time to complete and test the updated firmware.

The new firmware is in the final stages of review by our partners and should be available within the next week or two once validated. We will begin rolling out the updated firmware model by model, so we ask that you please be patient as you wait for your model to receive the update. Please follow our social media pages, your regional dealers and distributors for additional updates on the firmware release.

When Tidal is dealt with is there any chance of native Qobuz?

When Tidal is dealt with is there any chance of native Qobuz?
Not sure. It has been discussed in the past as there was an embedded Qobuz app years ago on the AK240. For a while, Qobuz had stopped supporting third-party integrations, so development of the embedded app stopped. Part of the issue also is Qobuz is not available in Korea, so it is difficult for the development team to test.

Please let me know how long does it take to fully charge the AK SP2000. I use the charger of Iphone 5V/1A, it takes 2.5 hours to fully charge. According to AK's documentation, charging 5V/2A requires nearly 5 hours. I don't understand why there is such a big difference. So is the battery bad? I bought a second hand sp200 from a friend.

BTW, please tell me time playing of AK SP2000, I tested using 16bit flac file, volume 60, inear AKG K3003 (2BA, 1DD), LCD off, wifi, bluetooth off.My SP2000 can play 7 hours from 100 % down 10%.
Thanks you!

Those are pretty normal times. It takes about 3 hours to charge, but varies if you have the player off while charging or it is turned on. It will take closer to 5 with the player turned on. Fast charging takes about 1.5 - 2 hours typically.

Playback time is 7 - 8 hours on a full charge.
