Figured out the problem. Usb dac doesn't work when using the amp. That kinda blows

Since middle of last week tidal on the sp1k has not allowed me to sign in. I get "authentication failed. Unknown error"

Anyone else having this issue? I'm assuming it's from tidal move to capcha in app, but its quite annoying since it's my main use case for the sp1k given usb dac doesn't work while using the amp tbh

It is an issue on Tidal's side and affecting not just AK, but other manufacturers as well. We have been notified by Tidal that they are aware of the issue, but have not received an ETA in when it will be fixed yet.

Roon doesn't work on the sp1km? I had assumed it worked on all of the 1k series

No update since you asked last Wednesday. As I mentioned last week, as soon as I do know more, this will be the first place I will update. I know there are other models besides the SP1000 and SP2000 planned, but have not been told specific models or timing.

I have not. I will be talking to AK's dev team tonight regarding updates on the Tidal issue. I will ask them again and have them follow up with the Roon dev team as they are currently working on other things with them.

OK. Thanks for responding. I simply worry that the longer the wait is with no update, the less likely it will happen. That goes for my SR15 as well (as both models were supposed to get Roon Ready support).

Still looking into it. They have not been able to reproduce the issue. As you and I have discussed via PM, I have reproduced the issue on two different SP1000s using a fiber internet connection like you, but no issues when using my backup cable internet connection. Interestingly, my fiber ISP did a firmware update to my fiber modem/wi-fi router a few weeks ago and the connection has been solid ever since with none of the issues I was having before the update.

I will follow up with the team again and see if they have an update.

Hi JasonNYC, I also had this problem when turning on the wifi connection, the SP1000 automatically restarted. This problem suffers after upgrading a new software version from AK.
I am using Huawei B316-855 4G Wifi transmitter.
I tried to use another wifi connection ( wifi hotspot from iphone), connect well, SP1000 does not reboot.
So I think, the problem here is that the SP1000 with its current software version is not compatible with some wifi devices. Hope AK will release a new software version to handle this error.

Astell&Kern has identified the issues users are having with the embedded Tidal app. Tidal has changed the authentication method used when logging into third-party Tidal apps. Astell&Kern is working as quickly as possible to make the required changes in the embedded app.

New firmware updates for the SP2000, SP1000, SP1000M, SE200, SE100, SR25 and KANN ALPHA will be released in May 2021, which will contain an updated embedded Tidal app to fix the authentication issues.

There is an issue with the new Tidal authentication policies on the following players – KANN CUBE, SA700, SR15, CT15 and CT10. We are looking into ways to continue to support the Tidal app on these players. More information will be available in May 2021.

Tidal is dropping support for older model Android devices. Unfortunately this means Tidal can no longer be supported on the following players due to the new authentication requirements - AK380, AK320, AK300, AK70 MKII, AK70, AK240, AK120II, AK100II.

According to the dev team regarding Roon and DSD playback:

Due to the increased bandwidth needed for DSD playback, Roon recommends using a hardwired connection for DSD playback. As AK players only have Wi-Fi capabilities, In order to provide a smooth playback experience without buffering, Roon enforces the following restrictions when streaming DSD over Wi-Fi:

- 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi enabled devices are limited to DSD64 streaming
- 5Ghz Wi-Fi enabled devices are limited to DSD256 streaming

Any DSD files above DSD64 will be downconverted by Roon to DSD64 on the SP1000

For the SP2000, if connected via 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi connection, DSD streaming will be limited to DSD64. If connected to a 5Ghz Wi-Fi connection, DSD playback will be limited to DSD256.
