New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
May 16, 2017 at 4:50 AM Post #46 of 9,406
The signal at the top is for WiFi only,so Tidal will be supported i am sure.
What i don't get is having dual AKM 4497 Eq chip but only support DSD256.

Not talking about the wifi icon...but the cellular data icon

...also what's the advantage of having an octa-core processor?

New UI, dual SIM/SD card tray at the top, octa core CPU, 5" screen, SP = Smart Phone...no rear camera tho

Where do you see " dual SD slot " ? It seems to be only a single micr-SD slot ! this is why A&K advertise " 512 Gb max " ( 256 internal + 1 microSD 256 Gb)

The tray could (possibly) take 2-SIM cards or 1x SIM + 1x micro SD card...its on most smartphone now unless you're still on the backwards iOS eco system (don't flame me...just tongue in cheek comment lol)

I think I am going to wait a bit before jumping on the SP1000 band wagon. I jumped on the AK380 as soon as it came out and was frustrated with the player until the software got sorted. long story short it was returned and I went back to my 240. A year latter I tried the 380 again and was pleasantly surprised.

I am sure AK will spend some time with software updates, and given that all AK players seem to share the same base software, I am sure my 380cu will benefit from some of these updates.

Was really hoping for more internal memory.

Oh and is it just me or does this thing look a little boring. the 380 has some largely useless angles and extensions as part of the case, essentially making it a little more outrageous in appearance than the 240. the SP1000 is just kind of meh.

Maybe the amp will be outrageous in design. Perhaps the amp will be embellished with Swarovski crystals to enhance 'gemstone reflective and textual surfaces" of the SP1000.......:)

I have both the Hugo and the Mojo but for some reason I am not too crazy about the Mojo. But the highly capable AKM 4497 Dac in the SP1000 should be a treat. The first Dap that use the this chip that I am aware of. In general I like the AKM sound and I hope the implementation is done right. I do not find the new design inspiring though. From picture, it looks like the screen is not Oled, another disappointment for me. I did predicted that they will go with the new Dac. I was hoping they will put 512 gb internally but it doesn't look like that will come true. USB C is good. How do you like the Tia? Comparing to my recently acquired Lab 2, it sounds a little veil but I love to hear it again. May be I will pm you when I am in HK next time.
The first DAP that uses AKM 4497 is Plenue 2, Have you listened to it? It sounds amazing

One more day to go...and all will be revealed

I'd be damned if it's only 64GB internal mem. One thing though was AK did have demo units of the Ak380 for reviewers that had 32 or 64GB RAM. So wonder if the rumour you heard was with any kind of review unit of the SP1000 having limted memory.

Yes, you may well be right. I could not believe it either.

However, I wonder why A&K is so quiet about internal memory and output power up to now,

Thats why many in Hong Kong are selling their 380s and 380 CUs.

The power output 2.2 for SE and 3.9 for Balance are not inspiring. Same memory capacity as 240 &380. The only cutting edge is the 4497 Dac. Let's hope it will sound significant enough and better than the 380Cu.
