Testing this next week. I changed my Effect Audio cable to balanced when I sent it in for the Octa upgrade. In the regular world, balanced really only gives you a benefit for longer cable runs. But I understand that the wattage is actually higher on the balanced output on the AK players.

Any updates for this? Which Effect Audio cable did you send in for an Octa upgrade? Did balanced vs SE change significantly on the sp1000?

Mine came with Ares ll 4-wire SE which I then swapped out for balanced. Appreciable difference. Then I bought an Ares ll 8-wire and had one of my 4-wires modded to 8 as well. Big difference in soundstage and imaging.

Running a PWAudio 2-wire balanced and it's heaven on earth. You don't have to get a ton of wires to get good sound.

Hi all, may I ask what cables/power plug you use to fast charge your sp1000? When plugged into my Macbook Pro 16 Inch with the iPad Pro charging cable, it gives me 10%/Hour charging speed and it is driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all, with the current firmware, does spk/m able to fully unfold .mqa or tidal master on dac mode? how about roon support? Have checked the thread up until page 400 didn’t quite get the conclusion

From what I understand, the player does a full unfold. but as a standalone DAC to a connected amp will not do a full unfold, I believe the final unfold is where it does not. As far as Roon, Jason said the development is on holds, shame really.

The Samsung fast charge ones are reliable for me.

MQA does unfold fully from the device to iems/phones. However, not all MQA encoded albums are "better" than non-MQA encoded albums when compared side by side and also be aware that not all are 24/192. I have two and one is 24/48 and the other is 24/88 (if I recall correctly). Both older albums.

SP1000 unfolds and renders to the iem. It only unfolds to the usb. It can pass the full unfolded and unrendered mqa out the usb to a mqa approved dac if software unfolding is off. Unfolding will give 88 or 96 for compatibility. Rendering then filters and presents it in it’s mastered bit rate 44 to 384 or higher possibly.

Your laptop won't provide a fast charge for the SPK. I'm partial to Anker brand quick chargers, like this one.
