I like this fw.The sound is slightly more aggresive and forward, especially in the mids,a very slight more edge and nuance, previous was a more rounded and smooth presentation imo but ofc differences are small but i did a/b immediately after update.

(AK really doesn't have sound changes in firmware updates)

Officially, A&K also states that there are no differences in sound signature between the SP1000SS and CU models.

Yet, it's common knowledge here on the forums that they do sound different, albeit only slightly, but the difference is there to be heard.

So I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear differences between certain firmware versions, despite their statement that they don't change the sound with updates.

Also, people make these sort of comments because they could apparently discern a small difference between the two firmware versions.

Now, it could very well just be their imagination, however, in such situations I'm normally willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Actually, AK DOES officially state there is a difference in sound signature based on the body materials used.

AK started out saying they were the same (SP1000 SS & CU) but soon began to say there were differences. Which I can easily hear. But firmware? A few folks claim differences, but AK ain't iBasso or Fiio. I conjecture that putting a fresh OS over the old one can change the sound a bit, but I don't think the change comes from the firmware itself. Just as some days my music sounds a bit different than on other days. Maybe the player (or the iems) is having a happy day, or maybe my mind is clearer, or maybe the weather is different, or sunspots, or.... But I've had three AKs and have never noticed a difference when updating a firmware. And I'm really listening. :) Not to say others don't, because this hobby is all about perceived perceptions.

If you don't hear the difference in sound when you change the firmware 1.17 to higher, then you have "a bear in your ear".

Or if you hear the difference in sound, then you have "a lemming in your ear" :p

Ahh, audiophilia. It's even worse with my high end 2 channel system. Humidity, quality of electricity can make a huge difference, not to mention condition of my ears, whether I'm tired or not and mood.

The A&K remove the electricity from the equation and perhaps humidity (not sure), but there can be slight differences in seal that can make a big difference... and of course mood, ears, rest all play a factor.

The problem with listening before and after a firmware is you can't go back. My audiophile friends and I often compare cables etc and many times when doing an a/b/a test the differences we hear on the 'b' are proved wrong when we go back to 'a'.

I have the option to return the previous firmware. And I did it every time after the release of new firmware. The conclusion is clear - all firmware versions after version 1.17 don't deserve attention in terms of sound quality.
