New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

Good call, and let us know. SE can sound awesome (hello new KSE1200s, in my case), but that’s just about sound QUALITY, not soundstage width. If you look at the DAPs in my sig, for every one that has SE and balanced on the same device, the balanced has a wider soundstage, regardless of whether the able is 4W, 8W, copper, silver or the copper/silver mix (I have tried all of the above). I think it’s worth you trying some other cables and I suspect you will arrive at the same conclusion. Balanced out was a revelation for me and even now, owning the rather expensive KSEs, I still enjoy a lot of my music collection more with my other fave IEMs and the 2.5 - balanced - output on the DAP.
Just because 2.5 has better separation and better sound stage' does not make it preferable, 3.5 unbalanced can be warmer and more musical.

It's the 99 DAC, not the 97.

@JasonNYC to save @szore having to (rightly) clarify this every week, please get the AK website/online press release/whatever typo corrected, so we can all move on with our lives and get excited about whether the SP2000 is going to sound “better” (insert your own subjective caveat) than the SP1000 with the right IEM/headphone/cable pairing.
@szore - got your back.

Not sure what you are referring to. Everything is correct everywhere. There was an issue a few weeks ago that was fixed on the US site, but the global site is correct.

@JasonNYC , do you recommend to charge SP1000M with slow charger and exceptionally charge it fast if needed? or I can always charge it fast? which is best for battery life?
Thanks
Fast charge all the time is fine as the charging circuits are designed for fast charging. There will be no issue with battery life either way.

@szore, I’m not sure if I used the word “better” anywhere in my post. In fact I think I used the word “awesome” about 3.5 (SE) and used the example of my KSE1200s. However, I definitely said “wider” about balanced, 2.5, but that may not be everyone’s main criteria. Although you kindly made the point that balanced can have better separation and better soundstage, which is EXACTLY my personal criteria. If I want to sound “warmer’, I use a copper cable. If I want to brighten it up, I use silver or hybrid.

I’d you’re going to quote me or anyone else, please restrict your remarks to what we actually said rather than your version of what we said.

And I just backed you on the 97/99 thing as well. Sigh.

I was referring to @szore’s weekly clarification. In which case I throw the ball back to @szore, @JasonNYC

EDIT: don’t shoot the messenger.

Thanks, do you know if they have the SP1000 AMP and ripper mrk II on display as well?
SP1000 AMP will not be in dealers for another two weeks or so, even for display.

@FidelityCastro I'm guessing you are referring to this post - https://www.head-fi.org/threads/new-tol-a-k-dap-the-ak-ultima-sp1000.850061/page-433#post-14969560

The post @szore responded to is a post about the SP1000 launch in 2017 and the info in that original post is correct - AK4497EQ DACs in the SP1000. I am assuming @szore saw the 4497 and assumed the OP was referring to the SP2000, not the SP1000.

@JasonNYC can you elaborate on the amp section of the sp2000? I’ve read somewhere that it does not have a dedicated amp section anymore but using the output power of the 4499?
Waiting on more info for our HQ team when they get into the office in a few hours. Will share when I get it

Hello Jason
Is it possible to know which opamps are being used in sp2000 copper and sp1000 copper? For example, OP2156, 1656, MUSES 01,02 etc

Completely agree, and will try next, as I said before, the SXC 8 on the 2.5 and see how that works, which I expect pretty great.

Thanks for the advice and getting my point. Quality and soundstage are not the same, but it's so nice when they go hand in hand.
