Interesting. I'm pretty sure that the older CA IEM's used the tinsel wiring and the new ones are just silver plated copper Litz wiring though.

And as far as the FiiO cable, was yours the 4-core LB design or the 8-core LC design with the Monocrystaline Silver Plated Copper OCC cable? I only have experience with the 8-core LC, and it did everything BUT make my Andromedas brighter. I think that the FiiO LC is an amazing cable for some IEM's, especially for the price.

So if you tried the older Fiio LB, give the LC a chance, that is if you still have the Andromedas!!! And you're very right about the ears being peculiar and different for EVERYONE!

Also, just wanted to point out that I ONLY use Comply Memory Foam tips, so that might have something to do with you thinking they sound bright and me thicker, if you're using silicone tips

@JasonNYC does the akspkm have a Bluetooth receiver function

This would be great, but I'am a little pesimistic considering how long its taken and not a single word coming from the AK camp. Here is hoping.......

I see a pile of McIntosh equipment has been roon certified. Now if they could find our little beauty under that pile and finally test it. Are we getting closer @JasonNYC ?

Well not so much for iem, but those harder to drive full size cans. Also a dedicated external amp might have better overall specs, lending to a better more efficient better sounding amplifier.

    Hi
I would like to share my setup i.e. portable external tube/SS amp with SP1000CU.
    Tube Amp: Oriolus BA300S
SS amp: Mass Kobo 424 fully balanced amp
IEMS: Hyla TE5T (Tri Hybrid- 1 Dynamic, 2 BA, 1 ceramic piezoelectric drivers)
    Cable: EA Horus
HP: Audio Technica ADX5000 with dekoni sheepskin fenestrated earpads & stock balanced cable.

Blue LED signifies that the tubes are heated & ready to use. It usually takes ~15-30 secs.

    BA300S has both 4.4mm IN & OUT.

One 4.4mm to 4.4mm IC is included in the box. If one purchases from oriolus directly, PWAudio custom IC cable is included. The prices are also different.

Driving HYLA TE5T is treat. The sound just melts in the ears. The vocals get extra juice & becomes lush. The estat driver has an excellent synergy. The bass gets sufficient body & still has a great resolution. BA300S adds +3db of gain to SP1000 so the original volume is controlled by the DAP.No fuss at all. Tube sound at its best. Around 200 hrs of burnin is required. I am at 10.
Also, the amp is very quite ; SNR -111db.

Now coming to some experimentation. I have set the Line out to 1.25v on sp1000. The 4.4mm output from ba300s goes to 4.4mm input kobo 424.
Voila... HYBRID AMP is ready to use. This gives the depth & warmness of the tubes & the raw power of SS amp. I have set the SS amp to low gain. This sound is so addicting.

This combo also drives my ADX 5000(high gain on SS amp) with ease(vol pot at 9 o'clock ) & results are astonishing considering the portability of the setup.

I know the carrying becomes cumbersome but i don't care. Music is the first priority. No need to buy Cayin n8 now.
Will report after complete burn in. I am in love with the HYBRID/TUBE sound.

    Cheers:L3000::ksc75smile:

I have just bought the ak t5p 2nd Gen. for my AK sp1000.
I remember that with the ak240 there was a dedicated eq setting for the ak t5p.
Anyone know if there will be something similar for the sp1000?

I was wondering if anyone could provide recommended settings on both the SP1000 device and Roon for using it as a DAC over Roon. Any input would be appreciated.

One specific thing I was wondering if wether using PCM or DoP on my SP1000 was a better option to use with Roon.

I assume you are connecting it by usb to a computer or some other end point. The usb settings do not have any effect when used this way afaik. The usb settings are for when you are connecting the sp1000 usb output to another dac while using it as the source.

Ah, I see. So the USB setting (PCM or DoP) doesn't do anything when it's just plugged into my laptop and i'm using it as a DAC in the laptop?

That is correct. It will be nice if they ever get roon certification for the SP1000. It's gone very quiet though. Maybe it's time to forget about it.

It's still coming. We actually just got our latest round of feedback from the Roon team last week.

Good news. I have a listening location on the deck just waiting. By the time the snow melts we could have roon.
