I just bought my first vinyl today (Radiohead-OK Computer). I'm completely new to this so do you have any storage, cleaning, handling, playing tips, any thing like that? Thanks.

Welcome to the Dark Side.

Grab a copy of Michael Fremer's DVDs (Import and Domestic Vinyl, SACD, DVD Audio, Audiophile Hardware - musicdirect - (800) 449-8333). There's more knowledge in them than I could write.

Yes, you are very very late.

But not too late. You need a decent turntable, tonearm & cartridge.

Then a decent preamp with a phono input.

Then a good LP cleaner if you plan to purchase mostly used vinyl.

Good luck.

I have been into vinyl from 1972 on. There has never been so many nice 180 gram pressings as now. With OK Computer on the right turntable you will hear the warmth of LPs. A lot of $25.00 supertuners can still be found in thrift stores. A search of the web will let you know the current best ones. Anything from the late 70s is good. Some people will tell you that some of the parts inside will only be god for ten years. I have had good luck with thrift store amps. You can find used turntables on E-Bay. One good table is a Thorens 160. The last one I baught was $100.00. There are still turntables and records at garage sales for almost free. One of the most frustrating ones though is everything is in order and you get ready to play an LP and the needle goes bent off. It also takes awhile to lean how to set up a turntable so you get the best sound without hurting your records. Most really good turntables even show less surface noise and scratches when setup right. Later you will want a phono preamp, it's all part of this grand hobby............................................. .....................
