hi...i am very new to IEM and got the ER-6i's on recommendation from amazon, and so far i love them. however, the ER-6's are the same price, and I can easily return these to Amazon. i am not trying to create a comparrison thread here, but just want some specific questions answered so i can make the best choice.

keep in mind i have the 6i's and like them so far, so these questions are specific for the 6's. questions are listed in order of importance to me.

1. i plan on using these mostly for ipod or PSP use, how does the 6's handle these devices, and what specific experiences have you had good or bad using them in this manner.

2. is it possible to workout with either of these without serious damage?

3. i do plan on using them sometimes with my computer or sound system also, which is the better choice

4. any other information you feel will be important. thanks.

Funny. I was all set to tell you that the 6i's are nothing more than 6's color-coordinated for the iPod. Just to make sure I didn't put my foot in my mouth, I went to the Ety web site, and to J&R's site as well.

Good thing I did! Both sites claim that the 6i's output is higher (greater sensitivity) and they are designed to produce more bass than the 6's.

From the Ety site:
6i Isolator Earphones are designed specifically for use with the Apple iPod® and other small portable players, providing greater sound output and enhanced bass.

From J&R:
6i isolator earphones are designed specifically for use with the Apple iPod and other small portable players, offering 8 DB higher overall sensitivity and slightly more Bass than the ER-6 isolator earphones.

I have heard only the 6's; I bought a pair and loved them until they fell apart.

So obviously, some Head-Fier who has heard both should comment on whether actual listening bears out the manufacturer's description of the differences. But I wanted to pass along the "official line." Hope that helps.

thanks, and i do appreciate the info, and was aware of it. i guess i was looking for more of a practical approach others have experienced in regards to both sets and my specific questions. thanks again for the reply.

My ER6's came with bi-flanges, and my ER6i's came with tri-flanges (which I don't like, but many do). The ER6i's are a bit easier to drive. The ER6's supposedly amp better. (By the way, I got the ER6i's in black -- didn't want the "iPod" white.) I believe that I read that the ER6i's have a different size "stem" and take a wider variety of tips -- I'm currently using short Comply foams and am very, very happy with them. I'm in a position to know for sure about what tips the ER6's take (I've used just the bi-flanges and Ety foams on them) ... but I don't!

Sorry ... my ER6's are out on loan (in another city), or I would run them on an iPod to see (hear?) the difference. But I didn't find them hard to drive -- just not as easy as the "i" version. After all, they are designed for portable use ...

ety is a great company....the 6i is designed for portable use, and thats what you plan on using it for...go for iT!

1) go for the i's
2)yes
3) probably not I's, but it wouldnt make a big difference.
4)neither model is bass heavy, and it might just be like teh 4ps where the less impedence= more bass. you can always add resistance (adapter) if you want to amp them.
