I can get them for 80 bucks less, so I could afford the amp even sooner. Is there really an $80 difference between the 2?

I've read that the A700 is 90% of the A900, but it's the 10% that vouches the 80$. Don't slouch if you can afford it, or you'll take the hit on the BST and have to put down more cash. Personally I'd go with MS-1s+Pa2v2 for a basshead, especially since you have no other amp. If you could wait, swap the MS-1s for 225s. Even used 225s and a used pa2v2 could run you very close to 200$ (a bit over maybe).

Probably not, but if you get the A700s, you will always wonder what the A900s would sound like. And then you'll do some research, and then you'll put the A700s up F/S, and take a loss. And then you'll upgrade to the A900s.

Just go to the top of the line now, it'll save you alot of pointless steps along the way. And strangely, it might actually save you money in the long run. Of course, if you buy the A900, you'll have this irresistable urge to try the L3000s.
