This is sort of a system question. A few months ago I bought a Headroom Max w/ Stepped attens and a pair of Grado SR225's (beacause I had owned a pair of HD580's and wanted to hear something new.)
Well after a few months of listening I'm willing to try something new. I've been looking at the AKG K1000 w/ the Sophia Baby Amp (package on TTVJ) and the Stax 3030 - or I've been thinking of picking up a pair of CD3000's and a pair of HD650's which would be around the same price as the Stax system, about $500 less than the AKG system - but of course I'd only have one amp still.
I was looking at the AKG system primary for its detail and soundstage which is very important to me. Also I have never owned a tube amp before, and I think it would be a nice complement to my Max.
Does anyone have any feedback on the Max + the CD3000? Obviously the Max + the HD650's are a pretty popular combination.
My biggest gripes with the SR225's (without comparison) would be their limited sound stage and irritating highs. Those are the two issues I'd really like to address if I'm going to make another purchase.
