I was on Todd's short list for the SR71. It is here. It looks and sounds good but I am a headphone amplifier neophyte. With its black aluminum skin and no heatsinks, and its sweet tube-like sound, it looks and sounds a lot like my old Levinson Model 29. Break in underway.

I have an old iPod, first generation 5gig, which I am using with it, as well as a 12" Powerbook G4. What is the optimal setting for the iPod volume. No lineout on this one. What is the optimal setting for PB volume? Thanks for your help.

Dr. Meier says to put the portable source component at a volume level of 80% of its' maximum output level and leave it there. Then, he says to hook up the headphone amplifier and put the volume up just enough so you can hear the music at a listening level equal to a conversation in a quiet room.

Take a look at this thread in Todd the Vinyl Junkie's forum:

I think everyone is busy burning their's in, but good advice is to get on the list - NOW.
I've got around 50 hrs on mine presently, with ipod and e5's, and my continuous reaction is Ohmygod,ohmygod,ohmygod...

Yep, that would be my crazy setup. And I so agree to all who have commented, it has an amazing sound. My little gem is also around 50 hours and still burning in, just replaced the batteries. The thing that suprised me was the weight of the SR-71. It has quite a bit of heft to it.
