My brother just got back from Disneyland (Anaheim) and said the new Space Mountain unofficially opened early.
He waited over an hour to ride and said it was really SWEET!

Any possibility of seeing the track has been erased, it is completely pitch black inside now (with the exception of the stars floating all around you).

There is a all new soundtrack and that is very cool and adds a great deal to every turn and drop.
The launch has been changed and updated with some sweet special effects (spinning room, etc.)

He said that it feels like it's twice the speed it was. He also said that the end has been changed. It seems like a turn or two were added to the end and the speed again is much faster. He said there is some effect where it seems like all these stars are coming right at your face towards the end. I'm not sure what he really meant or if it was some hologram thing but it sounds really sweet.

Anyone else rode it yet? Any other impressions?
And yes, I am a big kid and I will never outgrow Disneyland!

COOL!! Nope I havent had the chance. My brother is an ACE member and a disney collector. Im sure he'll be the first person I know to ride it.
Im almost affraid to ask how long the line was during the peak of the travel season.

So... the rumor floating around (other guitar forums) is that Eddie Van Halen sobered up and came out of hybernation long enough to cut the sound track.

Any truth to that one?

IMHO the last Dick Dale surf-guitar theme was stellar and would be difficult to top.

No Eddie...the new score was composed by Michael Giacchino, who scored "The Incredibles". I don't know if there will be a guitar front and center, sounds more like a "movie" or "classical" thrill piece with a full orchestration. The last one was fun but I think as usual an orchestrated piece will stand the test of time better.

My brother said the line moved really fast (one of the fastest in the park). Not sure what they did to move it along but he would have gotten on sooner but the ride broke down for 20 minutes or so (typical with new openers).

Awesome! I'd love a ride on that beauty, rollercoasters are probably my favourite rides and I love trying new ones out

I was privileged to go on the big one in Blackpool just as hailstones started pelting down from the sky, I was in the front carriage with arms raised to the sky and it was an amazing experience getting pelted by the hailstones, it felt like hedgehogs crashing into your face, they closed the ride until the hailstones stopped but "wow" it was superb!

That sounds horrible.

I do love rollercoasters myself as well, been riding a lot of "Walibi" ones, which is a popular themepark in Belgium and the Netherlands too I think. The Space Mountain in Euro Disneyland Paris sucked though. I got a bit bored riding it.

Thats cool about the short line... Kudos to them for that.

Yeah as an EVH fan that one was too darn good to be true. I didn't really think a whiskey drinking, cigarette addicted, hot tempered, arrogent, divorced, ex- rocker fit the "Disney" image. Too bad really... EVH could clean up a little and adopt more "Disney" in his life.... but heck what do I know.

Gary Hoey apparently also did some work on the new soundtrack.
