New sound computer sound system... advice

Hey guys, I would just like some advice on a new sound system. 
 
I would like to spend around 250USD (maximum)
 
I would like to get 5.1 speaker system , I watch a lot of blu -ray on my pc, i game, i listen to a lot of music. 
My friend recommends that I get a sound card too to improve sound quality.
 
So far I really like the Logitech z906 (mainly cus of the DTS decoding) and 500 watt RMS. (this is sadly quite a bit out of budget) 
 
Could any of you recommend a setup?

You can actually cut out the sound card cost and send digital out to leverage the DAC on the AVR. I suggest looking at the used audio hardware market and hit an optical/coax DD/DTS AVR and decent fronts 1st?
