as far as i was aware it is yes. hence that is why shure is saying the se115 uses a second generation dynamic driver, i assume better than the first gen one used in the se110

the pdf states that the se110 has a balanced armature

"From a technology standpoint, the primary difference between the SE115 and the SE110 is that the SE115 uses a dynamic driver (specifically, a Second Generation Dynamic MicroSpeaker), while the SE110 uses a balanced armature driver."

hence my surprise

Nah just kidding, but a new successor for the se530 would be nice, not good for my wallet.

They usually take a step foward when making new products but these earphone comapanys are starting to remind me of gillette razors where they keep adding a blade or a driver in this case. I hear the IE8 use less drivers and sound great. I am hoping they are not releasing a gimic for the sake of making a buck. Times are tough hopfully they did not layoff so of there talented engineers.

This is my first hearing about this actually. Personally, I'm kind of indifferent about the whole thing: I'm fine with it either way. If they don't come out with a new high-end earphone, great: I just recently ordered the Sennheiser IE8, and I know I'm going to really like it. Then I will have that and my SE530 to hold me over until they do eventually come out with a new one. If they do come out with a new high-end earphone, great: It'll come out in 'X' number of months, there will be hype, then actual quality reviews, and then if it turns out they are worth getting, after a year when the price comes down to a reasonable level, I'll think about getting it. And the entire time, I'll be enjoying my IE8 and SE530.

So like I said, I'm fine either way. We'll see what happens.

Googled the following press release ...

Heilbronn/Germany, December 09, 2008 - - At the upcoming Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), taking place from February 03 – 05 in Amsterdam, Shure will present a selected product portfolio at booth no.3B120. Among products shown will be Shure’s recently launched UHF-R micro-bodypack and Microflex microphone additions, as well as, a selection of QSC products distributed exclusively by Shure Distribution in Germany and the UK including the new AcousticDesign subwoofer.

With the launch of the AcousticDesign subwoofer at the show, QSC rounds out the AcousticDesign line of surface and ceiling mount speakers which offer both modern design and impressive sound quality.

Shure’s new UR1M micro-bodypack is the recent addition to its premium UHF-R wireless system. Tailored for applications where inconspicuousness and maximum performance are a must, the UR1M offers superior wireless audio in an ultra-compact package weighing just 62 grams and approximately half the size of most standard bodypacks.

The new additions to Shure’s Microflex series are also represented at the show. These flexible and unobtrusive microphones are available in gooseneck and boundary options giving consultants and integrators an even greater choice for their needs.

So far, no SE640 yet, though I'd love to see one
