New shuffles...

It will be the worst player to navigate EVER if they dont put a screen on it.

Navigation issues are why I traded up from the 1GB Shuffle to a 2G Mini, just couldn't deal with the Shuffles minimalism and for $50 more it was a no brainer. Picked up a 512MB MuVo N200 to satisfy my need for around the neck carrying and with FM, voice recording and a custom EQ for $99 I never looked back.

this is total BS. the quote isnt even right. at digitimes, the quote reads:
"aggressively planning to ramp up their output of 8 Gb NAND flash chips"

see the difference? 8Gb = 1 GB. so they're ramping up production of 1GB chips for 2 and 4 GB players? right....

sorry, i can no longer view the original digitimes article (its become a members only article), but trust me, they have no idea what they are saying. it doesnt make sense, pricing would be rediculous, and the shuffle wouldnt be useful with that much storage.

Already Apple is paying $58 for the flash in their 1GB device. This means that if it falls to $30, they'd only be paying $60 for the flash in a 2GB device. Thus they could price a 2GB Shuffle for $150, like the 1GB version currently is... and just drop all the other sizes down a price category.

Now, unless they also revamp the Mini around this time, when the 5G will also be released, I doubt they will release a 4GB Shuffle. It just doesn't make sense, really. It would have to cost like $200, minimum (aka same price as the equivalent sizes Mini, which has a screen and stuff...).

And BTW, why doesn't it make sense? So they have to stick two 8Gb chips in a 2GB Shuffle--so? The things ain't big.

mini mini mini: http://www.computerworld.com/hardwar...102072,00.html
10gb is perfect for the mini or any micro drive player

2/4gb for shuffle? no screen? Apple aren't stupid. Although everyones dismissed the shuffle at first as a gimmick that wouldn't work. Now consumers are looking at flash world. Even Creative launched their own shuffle, after dissing it!

That's because everybody has to follow Apple's lead, to some extent, or die. Even if Apple leads where they don't really want to follow, like screenless mp3 players... they can't do much about it. Fail to offer an equivalent product and it makes Apple look good, especially to the average consumer.

Oh, there was already a post about it, doh! Wouldn't apple introduce just the 2gb first, and then wait a while for the 4? Or wouldn't they find a way to make the minis flash-based? The more I think about it the more it seems like more false info from digitimes.
