Just recently I bought a pair of Senn 555 but after reading about the 595 I decided to get those. Well after compairing the two it seems the 595 have less bass then the 555. Should that be the case. I'm not running them amped but will be soon.I hope I made the right choice, but as of now I'm not sure.

The 595s have less of a bass hump but better extension.

True. The HD555 has a bit more upper bass bloat than the non-bloated HD595.

Ahh I see. I have been listening to some classical music for a while now. Just recently got into classical. My doctor and wife suggested I try it.

IMO "bloat" is an overstatement. "Very slight hump" would be more accurate.

Good ears! What you describe is consistent with frequency response graphs of the two headphones at headroom (headphone.com). Which you prefer is a matter of personal preference.

i recently acquired the 595's (sold my 555's) and the bass is somewhat less loud, especially when they were new. don't worry though, i'm grooving to the bass drum/guitar right now, unamped from an audigy2

I am new to headphones, but I am wondering if perception of lack of bass, is what people are used to. I own the 595's and they certainly have terrific bass. I know that in the home theater world, many people really bump up their subs for more impact. It is not technically correct for music, but it is what they are used to. There are also tons of speakers that (some of them higher end) that bump up certain frequencies to give people what they want which will in turn sell more speakers.

I am sure there are a lot of headphones that have more bass than the 595's, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that it is right. If it what you like, I say go for it.
