New Release & Colorado Tour | X1s GT DAC with headphone amplifier, the 8th gen and the milestone of the classic aune X1 series

Hi, and thanks for your attention.
OK, then there is something related to mode filter 3 and 4 not working properly using USB input.
As you requested I've tried setting filter mode 1 and 2, and you're rigth, now I get the selected volume level from the start of the track without the "ramp up", so nothing is missing.
So am I doomed to use mode filter 1 or 2 only, when using USB input?
Another question, about mode filter 3 and 4, what's the special relationship between those filters and USB input?I mean, when using coaxial input there's no problem.
Well, a small one, the first time you play a track with coax, let's say you're switching input from USB to coax, you have a ramp up volume as well, but only once in a session; so somehow I understand, as you say, there's a special time requirement for the mode filter 3and 4 to lock, and I could live with it if only happens when switching from other input or filter mode once in a session, I mean with coax input you have the problem only the very first time you play a track in a session, thenafter you can skip or play any track randomly, flawlessly and without any issues. And again, problem is with USB input, as then you have to go through with the problem each and every track...as a sort of "warm up", and yes that's a problem for me; furthermore I can't imagine listen to a symphonic classical piece, as many as there are, with plenty of instruments playing at the very start and not listen to them. You just lose momentum...
I'm not an expert, but as far as I konow, inputs shouldn't have nothing to do with mode filter selected. If there's a way to make it work with coaxial or optical input, there's a way to make it work with USB or whatever input a device could have.
So sorry, but for me that's a fault.
No complaints about how it sounds, completely satisfied in that respect.

Regards.
It happens to USB (XMOS) because USB's receiving is asynchronous, while coaxial's and optical's are synchronous.
Filter mode 3 and 4 pursues the ultimate PLL performance so the delay is more noticeable. The volume rampup is to protect the amplifier and headphones/speakers:)

Hey Aune I am losing data lock using USB, I'm not using filter mode 3 / 4. Any advice? Have not seen other users mention it so maybe mine is not working as it should.

Ok, I get it.There's some sort of protection in "pure mode filter" wich causes the volume ramp up.Kind of weird tweak, to be honest.Thank you, again, for the explanation. Now we all know what's going on, and that's a step forward already, and have as the alternative, not to use "pure mode filter" on USB, wich is not fair at the very least, as "pure mode filter" is supposed to be the show star...
Now the big question:
Is Aune going to asume this as a fault and seek a solution?
Or I am supposed to accept the device as properly working?

Regards.

The protection of filter mode 3 and 4 is necessary, especially when the sampling rate is being changed - the PLL changes frequency until it's stable, during which, once random fluctuations happen, the DAC might output a big sound. Volume rampup is to protect the devices after the DAC. Besides, the X1s GT supports 10M external clock. If the external clock is warming up or the transmission cable is not well connected, within the time we set the X1s GT can react to that timely and close the output. At the moment, the output time we set for volume to rise from mute to 0dB is 800ms. Most music files have that room in the beginning. The X1s GT uses XMOS working in asynchronous slave USB mode, so to positively delay the computer end player data output, another big buffer needs to be added. Although the volume thing will be solved, there will be extra delay, like when you are watching a video, the sound might not match the picture.

Thanks for the explanation Aune. I think my unit is defect, I have a big sound changing sample rate even on filter 1/2. I will send it back to Amazon. When I could listen, I liked the sound. But the big pop noise definitely seems like it should not be there!

As you say, time you set for volume to raise is 800ms.That matches what I've noticed by ear.But nevertheless, 800ms. is way too much for a proper listening experience;if this is is necessary I can't agree by any means. As I am just a final user and not an engineer, can't say there's other way to make things, but as many other DACs and players I've had, never experienced such a ramp up volume. So there's a way to avoid this issue, that's for sure. But that's the engineering task, not mine.
So, still hoping for a solution. At the moment I'm a disappointed final user, and I guess many other will. Now it's at Aune's hand...

Thanks and regards.

Thank you for the kind offer but in all honesty I do not think I am much of a reviewer. I tend to listen to my music and not the equipment as I think if I hear the latter, some thing is wrong with it. The equipment exists to provide me with a path to my life's soundtrack and the memories associated with it. I do enjoy reading other's thoughts though so I am certain you should have no difficulty finding good people to help out.

That is the beauty of it really, trying it out. Impressions don't have to be overly comprehensive and don't be intimidated if your photos are not professional like some reviewers like to put forth. I think having impressions from members like you is just as important as any other. Hope you reconsider ORT!

Might I inquire if this device is capable of up-sampling rates and the like? It is a DAC and Amp and is of great interest to me for that reason. If it is not, that is fine but my brother has asked me to inquire. He is more "audio wise" than I, having owned a DJ business for many years. He does not care for vinyl but digital is his domain and desire.

Thank you in advance for your kindness regardless of whether the answer is yes or no. Me? I am more interested in looks and PLL. Pretty Little Lights...
I have a thing for looks. Performance matters too but I listen to music and more often than not, I also look at my equipment and in doing so I wish to find it pleasing to my eyes, to my soul (of which eyes are the window) and to my ego. I am realistic. I have an ego and it demands to be fed, if only occasionally. Does this gorgeous device have toadish PLLs and more? Inquiring egos want to know...:beerchug:

I don't know the answer to that question honestly in regards to upsampling. I'm definitely not sold on the technique myself. I can confirm however that it definitely has the PLL's you desire - the volume knob light is absolutely awesome.

If you use the X1s GT with a computer, there's some methods that can help - after 3s playback, double click on the file being played to replay it or simply operate on the timeline to make it play from the start (when the player software is not cut off, the replay from the start won't lead to that volume change); for some player softwares, buffer length setting might also help. Making full use of the PLL offers high quality clock, which noticeably improves the sound quality, but at the same time, it will lose some speed of lock.

If you give up higher PLL performance, you can choose filter mode 1 or 2, which also have very good PLL performance and the sound quality won't be degraded. It's just that if you pursue higher sound quality, you have filter mode 3 and 4 to choose from.

In fact, bascially no other product of the same level/price range uses this kind of high performance PLL, moreover, most high-end products with this kind of technology also have the waiting issue, which might be even longer (3~5 secs).

Ah, that is a defective one:triportsad: A normal unit wouldn't have pop noise. We are sorry for the unsatisfactory experience... and thanks for liking the sound! Hope aune products will still accompany you and make you enjoy:)
