I know there are already a ton of threads on this, and I've spent the past hour or two trying to use them to help out my situation, but couldn't really find the best fit.

I'm looking to get a new set of phones, as up until now I've been reliant on speakers alone. I'm in college, and have a roommate, but so I'm looking for headphones that don't have too much sound leakage. So they don't necessarily need to be closed phones, just not too noisy {don't listen to music all that loud anyways}.

I'm not really looking to spend more than $150, and listen to pretty wide range of music styles, but primarily rock music. I would be using them with a Dell E1705 for the most part. At first I was thinking of the Senn 485 ($75) or Sony MDR-V6 ($85), but there seemed to be enough flaws with both to warrant spending more to increase quality. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

*Note: If the performance is really worth an additional $50 to make it a budget of $200, I guess I would be able to shell out the extra cash if it was really worth it.

Well the Senn 485 is open, and leaks LOTS of noise, and is VERY bass heavy. The V6 is more of a monitoring headphone, flat response FOR THE MOST part, although some people here prefer them for music or so Ive read.

Maybe look into in-ears or something, some nice ones too. For $150 Im sure you can get some sweet IEMs.

You might also want to go to your local guitar center and demo the Ultrasone HFI 450. Its $100, and sounds awesome! The LOW LOW bass isnt very great (<20hz), but above that everything else is good. For $100 I loved them, my only complaint was that they werent comfortable enough for me to fall asleep with them on easily, but they were definitely comfortable enough to just use day-to-day.

denon D1001 doesnt do a great job with isolation, but it sounds great for the price

Definately get an IEM. They're about as much an essential as pens and paper. Compact and portable, plus they isolate and have low sound leakage. Great for on the go.

Yah, guess I should've mentioned that I already have an alright IEM which I use on the go. However, I wanted a full and superior sounding headset for my room, so portability isn't really an issue on this purchase. I also occasionally play computer games, so headphones that can deal with that as well wouldn't hurt.

Edit: What about the Sennheiser HD555?

the 555 sounds great, with a little lacking in the bass department, but its open and leaks just as bas as the 485, wouldnt be ideal if your roomate sleeps near you or something.

Look into the D1000 (10001?)

+1 for Denon AH-D1000. Great sounding pair of phones, and the comfort is great, too.
