the philips HE-9500. the design looks similar to the sony ex-series, sharp md33, creative ep-630, pansonic hje-50, ath ck5 and jvc ha-fx55.

Since prices for Philips cans are apparently lowest in southeast Asia I assume they're made there. A search on SBC-HE9500 turns up a bunch of Korean sites. It'll probably be a while until those become available in ol' Europe. Global player eh?

I heared these are probably available in october 2005 in Europe. There is also a HE-9501 variant, but I do not know if this one is different in any way. A version with neck strap will be avaiblable next year.

Philips is launching these as a counterstrike against the Sony products and they also claim it to sound better.

These look pretty sexy, too. Hopefully they can compete.

I have just bought a pair of them. They have product number SHE-9500 in the Netherlands. I bought them from the Philips Shop, so I do not know if they are for sale in normal shops. The price was 24,95 Euro.

First impression
- The cord feels kind of fragile compared to my other (cheap) Philips headphones.
- They feel very comfortable. I have very small ears so I use the smallest earpads supplied.
-First sound impression was that they sound a bit muddy. But perhaps this is because my other headphones sound very bright. So I will get back to you on this

its available in harvey norman stores as well. also sgd49.

impressions:
the finish feels cheap. the mids are good, but the highs are not very present. maybe i'm spoilt by the etys and shures. :P the sound is also muddy and sounds veiled. switching back to my md33/ep630, the veil seems to be lifted off. the bass is present and not boomy. there is a slightly boxy sound to it. overall, i would recommend the md3/ep630 and the ath ck55 over these philips. the philips are better than the offerings by sony though.

I have the EP630. Hmmm....the Philips are not so good isn't it! The cord is 0.6m+0.6m? Quite ideal unlike HJE50's 1.5m total length. Gotta go Harvy Norman and check it out.

it retails for rm90 (roughly USD23) in malaysia.

i would like to see how this compares to the mx500 as both are priced almost the same over here.
