New or Pre-Owned Headphones?

Greetings Head-Fi'ers,
 
After recently testing a few cans out I'm pretty set on some LCD-2's.
 
The next step is whether I buy them new ($1600 Aud for the Fazor) or pre-owned, (seems to be about equal to $1000 Aud).
 
What's the reliability like with the LCD-2's and would it be a good idea to buy them new with the security of a full warranty period and knowing they haven't been mistreated?

anything over $500 usd, i'd DEFINITELLY buy brand new. but that's just me.
 
normally buyers of LCD-2 will not be mistreating it, most likely will be an audio enthusiast at that price point. Enthusiasts usually baby their headphones.

The warranty would be the overarching issue for me. Sometimes things go wrong, even with expensive headphones.
