Hi,
since I am new to the head-fi community I like to introduce myself.
My name is Chris I am 26 years old and came from Germany. I found this site a year ago when I was looking war a good pair of headphones and read a review about the Philips Fidelio X1 which helped me a lot.
I am currently looking for a good isolating and comfortable portable headphone so I thought it is a good time to join this great community.
Improving my English is also a point, so feel free to correct errors if you want.

Hope to learn more from you guys.

Hmm, have you decided if you want an IEM, or a full pair of Headphones yet?

Within 7 hours of posting?  That is some serious reading he's been able to do!  Just kidding.

Regardless, I don't think Mannheimer was mentioning purchasing an IEM.

To @Mannheimer

With consideration to purchasing a good isolating and comfortable portable headphone, there are a lot out there, and it would be easier if budget, primary use (with a phone/DAP, DAC/Amp, etc.) and sound signature preference (bass-oriented, neutral, natural, treble-emhasized, etc.) are mentioned to help narrow down to headphones that would possibly suit you better than others.

Welcome to Head-Fi, everyone!

Greetings all,

My name's Berus, and I live in Palm Springs, CA.   Just registered for the site today, after having ended up here over the past week as I googled various searches related to headphones.   After having read probably more than 500 posts, I decided I should probably make a user account here, as I just took the plunge today and ordered a set of (fairly serious) headphones.  I'm sure I'll be asking for advice in the coming weeks (on topics such as amps and DAC's, etc.), so hopefully I won't ask too many dumb questions.  I am new to high end headphones, and there is no doubt that if I don't expend some effort on research, I'll probably end up regretting my next couple of investments (DAC, Amp, etc.)    Anyway, thanks to all whose posts helped me decide on which headphones to get (and, for helping me to decide that high end headphones would probably be well worth the money.)

New member but longtime lurker on HF. Wanted to join in the conversation more. Love audio and music, almost always wear over-the-ears and am looking into an amp/dac combo. Current cans, ue6000, m50x's and fidelio x1s.

Hello,

I'm a new member from Belgium. I have my Denon AH-D5000 since 2007 for portable use with iPod Classic and now I'm looking for upgrades. It's a whole new world in the mobile hi-fi 8 years later so that's why I joined this wonderful website :)

Hi. My name is Chad and I live in Dallas, TX.  I found this website after doing my research to unravel the specifics of what goes into a high quality well engineered set of headphones.  After being frustrated by the idiotic and cheap marketing tactics of most mainstream retailers/products, I started digging into headphone specialist forums/reviewers and that led me here.

I listen to everything from 1980s new wave to early (pre 1990) Detroit techno to ambient house.  I'm fanatically obsessed with product design as well as the beauty of great engineering.  That being said, my purchase decisions are always a tug of war between those two preferences.

Hi there!

I am new so thought I should post an introduction somewhere. I suppose I would classify myself as a geek and audio enthusiast but probably not audiophile. I like in the UK (london).

I recently threw away my trusty pair of travelling headphones. (JVC HA-NC250) They still worked but were a few (5 according to amazon?!) years old and needed replacing.
I love having a good pair of noise cancelling headphones for travelling, especially flying for obvious reasons.

I spent a day last week looking at bose QC 20/25's, all the reviews kept on stating how fantastic the noise cancelling was but the audio quality is somewhat lacking.
Funnily enough my cousin came to stay with my parents last weekend and he picked up the QC 25s in the USA so I got to try them out.
I was floored by the active noise cancelling, stood next to the extractor fan in the kitchen and turned it on full. Flicked the switch on the bose and the noise just disappeared. My jaw dropped, really really impressive. But it instantly reminded me what I hate about active noise cancelling, the hiss.

Also spending £250 on headphones that don't have fantastic audio quality just seems ass backwards.

So I started looking at IEMs and noise isolation and found out about CIEMs. Or more specifically "entry level" CIEMs for under £300 including impressions.
I started looking at minerva who took a week to get back to me and have the least appealing product in that their £200 pair don't have detachable cables.
Cosmic Ears and CustomArt both do detachable cables on their cheapest models which are about £160/180 for what I want, not including impressions, and sound wise they both reviewed better than minerva so it was down to those 2.

I think I am leaning towards cosmic ears mainly as they are UK based and any issues would be sorted much easier than if I had to send back to CustomArt in poland.
Piotr from CustomArt is fantastic tho, very tempted to go with him purely due to his super fast customer response time and enthusiasm.
