I was just wonder if anybody heard about the new zeppelin album that is about the arrive in stores soon. It is suppose to be live recordings that was previously unreleased. I have heard bootleg zeppelin recordings, which I thought sounded lousy. This recording is different. It is an official live release. Is this release going be a good one (something that was recorded professionally and perhaps left as sole property of the band members) or merely a doctored version of a good bootleg recording?

I read somewhere (Rolling Stone perhaps?) that Led Zeppelin were releasing a live DVD featuring material from the Royal Albert Hall (circa LedZep II) right through to later in their career. I think the official release was later this week from memory.

I can't recall any further details - hope this helps.

Led Zeppelin is a DVD, not a DVD-A, put out to fill a big hole in Zeppelin video, the only official release of which until now was The Song Remains the Same.

There's plenty of info about the new releases, such as this press release, but the important thing to know is that though both the CD and the DVD are put together partially from the same shows, there's no overlap in material. The Led Zeppelin [DVD] is a two-disc deal with about five and a half hours of material; How the West Was Won is a meshing of two shows, but presented in a way to appear to be a single show.

Both the CD and the DVD are made from official recordings and have been painstakingly restored. Jimmy Page did a lot of the restoration, and all the remaining band members have said they sound (and look, in the DVD's case) very impressive.

I have both How the West Was Won and Led Zeppelin [DVD] on order from Amazon. I'll let you guys know how they are when they get here sometime next week. (If any of the rest of you buy, do so from the Head-Fi Amazon link -- Amazon has the lowest price anywherer anyway, and free shipping.)
