I recently retired my desktop into the closet as a network media library and will be listening to music primarily off my HP nc8430 laptop. My desktop has an EMU 0404 which i though sounded fantastic with my klipche 2.1.

Essentially i want similar sound quality off my laptop. I have a PCMCIA slot but would rather use usb 2.0 or firewire and will be listening from itunes with the foobar2000 passthru on klipche 2.1's.

thanks!

How much are you looking to spend? External DACs can be quite expensive...

Or you can try EMU 0404 USB.

Digit-Life has a review HERE.

That's a good review! I wasn't aware of this product's existence

Sounds like you have a winning combo... You got the 203.2 right?

The 0404 USB looked very tempting indeed, but I found a great deal for the Audiophile USB (inferior to the 0404 USB on paper), so I went for that instead.

for $99 the 0404 pci card is a good deal, but not for $200. I got the 203.2 and transport for far less than an 0404usb and from the reviews it should sound a lot better.
