On the Iriver America website, there is a new firmware version 1.66 available for download. This is a very pleasant surprise: an update for a two year old player.

There are some enhancements as well as a number of significant fixes. Here is the list directly from the website.

Fixed Bugs
1. Fixed the bug that shuffled tracks on a certain pattern.
2. Fixed to power off HDD when pressing NAVI button(HDD powers on) and escaping with no file selected.
3. Fixed the bug that displayed broken character when changing bit rate of EXT. MIC on the menu after changing it on the settings from Standby mode.(H120/H140 only)
4. Fixed the bug that didn't record as input volume set when input volume of Int. MIC is set to 0 previously.
5. Fixed the bug that made noise regarding buffer control when recording in WAV format.

So apparently, two of the biggest problems have been fixed: the shuffle problem and the WAV recording clicks.

My initial tests show that the clicks no longer appear in my WAV recordings. Someone else reported that the shuffle is improved.

Rockbox looks great, but I need full LCD remote support and full Recording support. When that is done, I will probably make the switch.
