I'll listen to some more later, but from what I've heard they're quite good for it.

"Thinking About You" is what got me to realize these things are really damn good with acoustic guitars though. Love that song on these.

EDIT: Quite impressed with their performance on "The National Anthem" as well.

Hello gentlemen. I am looking for a pair of cans to compliment my HD-600s, so something with a more "fun" sound signature that will handle electronica, hip-hop, etc. well. My HD600 are great for Jazz, Classical, and Vocal music but I need something that will make me dance. I was originally looking at the Beyer DT990 and the Ultrasone Pro 900, but then I stumbled upon this thread and have been reading through all the raving reviews. Could these be what I'm looking for, or are they too similar to the HD600?

I don't know if the HE400 is gonna be different enough for you. While the HE400 are fantastic all rounders, I think something even more fun sounding would be a better compliment to your HD600. Both the Pro 900 and DT990 sport some pretty harsh treble, which may make you hate them. Personally, I love both (love the 990s more than the Pro 900), but I can't act like the treble may not be cumbersome to others.

I say this because the HE400 are natural sounding 'fun' headphones. They are still very well balanced, and don't really emphasize ranges like typical fun cans. This may lead me to believe it'd compete with the HD600 for the same things. I haven't heard the HD600, so I'm just assuming, but I've heard the Q701 and DT880 which are the closest things to the HD600 in terms of comparable headphones, and I feel the HE400 caters to the same things they do, with an added injection of dynamics and fun. If I had the DT880 or Q701, I'd look for something else to compliment them. The HE400 for me would an UPGRADE to them, not complimentary.

Oh man, you guys are going to kick me off this thread.. just switched over to the HD700 (same album) and it's just kick butt.  Add tighter bass (thought just a tad less presence but deeper) and an open and airy sound to the mids.. perfection.. maybe I'm a HE500 kind of guy

Got to try them out someday soon. (I'll keep quiet now)

By any chance you're selling your he400 for a reasonable price? :pPPP

Not yet.. want to spend some time with the HE500 and LCD2 before I decide. Still liking the HE400 but they're getting less ear time.

Don't worry, jerg, unlike MickeyVee, you still have treble sensitivity.  Let the guy have his bragging rights....

I got my FiiO E17 yesterday and after listening to it with my HE400s, I can say that I am enjoying the little amp.
The FiiO has a very smooth sound. The top end is not as defined and smooth as my Audio-gd NFB-6 but it works for a portable system. The midrange is good but the bass doesn't goes as low as the audio-gd.
Overall a nice purchase. As a true portable use, I am pairing it with ATK CK-10 and the smooth sound is all over me.

That's why you should boost the bass by +2 on the E17. I found that +2 is like my NFB5s regular sound.
