I'm completely new to the world of audiophilia. My finest experience has been the koss KSC75s. I think it sounded better than the ever so slightly more expensive Bose companion II. I could really pick out the different instruments in my music. Now I'm out on my own and I want to explore the best things for my situation/environment and within my budget. So allow me to provide you details you can process.

I have bothered to read some audiophile terminology and google some things so I'm not totally incapable of expressing myself, but as ignorant as I am of many things in the audio reproduction world, much of it is still over my head.

I say up to $500 because of possible sales that will bring that to my price range.

Now then... For some details.

First of all I was trying to research good speakers and headphones or headsets and I first ran across this

Which lead to this

Which lead me to ya'll.

I'm looking mainly for clarity, articulation, speed and fluidity. I hope I put that right. I wouldn't mind a little punch to the bass as well, anyway for it to be present. Well balanced.

I'll be using it for video games and music.

Now for additional equip'.

What is a DAC and how does it work? Just how will I plug this and a separate mic into the XBox. I would be eternally grateful if some persons would explain these things in newb language to me and recommend some stuff.

Bump. Help please.

EDIT: I really like the looks of these... http://www.masterdynamic.com/products/mh40?gclid=COHHqL6HsMECFeVaMgodmHQAQA. The review description seems to be what I'm looking for spot on with build quality to boot. Great aesthetics too. But I'm still wondering about DACs, AMPs & what exactly does this line from the MH40's review mean?

"AMPING
None required though I find it very scalable. I would say its more source dependent than amp dependent. My iPhone gets them fairly loud and sounds fine but they deserve more than just an iPhone out."

I suppose the best I can do is read these guides and pick for myself. I'm inclinded to go for the new fidelio x2. I'll do some major editing to my thread later and bring it back up as one asking for advice on what amp pairs well with it and some other things. Thank you though.
